SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

I just aquired a SD HB & I wonder if it is genuine. It has black tops & copper back with no stamp or label. By the pole slot screws is the SD logo in white but in a smaller font than I have ever seen before. It has a grey plastic lead with single white plastic covered copper inner & non braided silver outer.
It looks a little plain & frugal & the lead is sub standard.
Help.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Hi,
I will get a pic asap, but I am a little worried NOW.
I have now searched out logo posts & everyone is concerned with the top logo print & little is directed to the base plate stamp, of which mine is without!
Question - Have SDs been made without a base logo stamp & with cheap looking grey plastic covered lead wire?

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Some Duncans do use the smaller logo. Check out the Invader. And some folks change the wiring. I've done several.

The baseplate might be a concern though. Not sure if they ever used a plain one.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

maybe it was a magnet swap and aquired a new baseplate? I had a CC with a broken mounting peg, it got a generic baseplate i had laying around.....I cant imagine going thru the trouble of lettering a bobin to make someone...WHO? think it was a SD
invaders and hotrails type pups have a smaller logo

a pic would be cool......

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Thanks all.
I am UK & it's late - I will sort pic out tomorrow.
Seems to hinge on the definitive baseplate - no - logo , was it ever so? .... answer.
Hey, its 8.18k
No Hex pole screws.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Hmm, at 8.18 it could either be a 59 or a Seth Lover, maybe even a weak (degaussed?) Pearly Gates...

Really, we can all speculate as much as we want but a few pictures (front back and perhaps even side) could help immensely.

With that, goodnight ;)

my invader doesn't have a logo should i be worried?

Not at all. You can get any Duncan without logo. Or, it is easily removed too.

how would the magnet strength affect the ohm resistance of the coils?

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Sounds bogus. Brass baseplates suck high end right out of the pickup. I've never seen a Duncan with brass. Small logo at 8.18...bunk,I'm willing to bet.

Hi, PHOTOS>>>>>>>>
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=83357&l=3cf5f&id=653330242

I bought on Ebay & seller said ................

"GOOD CONDITION FULLY WORKING TOOK IT OUT OF A USA STRAT (BRIDGE)BUT HAVENT A CLUE WHAT MODEL IT IS, SOUNDS FINE, I`VE JUST REPLACED IT WITH A BARE KNUCKEL PICKUP AND TO BE HONEST THERE ISN`T MUCH DIFFERENCE IN SOUND BETWEEN THEM, I`VE ALSO FOUND A PICKUP RING I HAD SO YOU CAN USE IT IN A GUITAR WITHOUT A SCRATCHPLATE "

Unusually, the seller as not contacted me at all.
He makes a few errors.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

I think it´s fake! The logo isn´t in the center of the pup... :eek2:

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

doesnt look legit to me, the font isnt right. nor is it centered, but it could be an odd model, I dunno.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

I'll bet dollars to donuts thats fake. They didn't even try to do the logo properly. As Daz said, wrong font, not centered.

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Thanks for your opinions.
I contacted SD Customer Services yesterday & today & I am frustratedly awaiting a definitive answer such that I can approach seller & maybe escalate to a dispute as he seems comlpicit in fraud, as no way could a copy equate with a Bare Knuckles sonically!!
Are we entering a whole new era of counterfeit SDs polluting the market?
Anybody else encountered fakes?

It don't, you're right, it was very late at night and I was thinking output :p

Yeah man, completely wrong font, off center, not even properly aligned, wrong color too (SDs logo is in silver, not white), the screw poles feel different (at least from the SDs I've seen up close), the wire is different (gray flat instead of black round) completely wrong base plate and it seems as if the holes at the bobbins are square, I'm pretty sure the SDs are round...

Did you already pay? Is it already in your hands?
If so then all you can do is wire it up and hope it sounds good...

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

WOW, thats a fake. Sorry to see that.....some people I just can't believe!

It couldn't be anymore fake if it said SeaMore Ducken on it!

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

Hi,
I phoned SD from the UK & they confirmed my suspicions!
Baseplate logo impression doubt is now resolved for you all to see.
I will upload the crappy listing photo in my defence.
thanks all.

"We have never used a base-plate that looked thatway---especially in terms of the color. Additionally, all of ourbase-plates in the past 25-years (at least) have the Seymour Duncan logostamped into the metal. The gray colored lead-wire is another item thatwe have never used. The logo used the wrong font (and is awkwardlyoff-center). Most of our logos are printed in silver these days aswell---not white."

Re: SD HB id needed as I am wondering if it is a fake?

I'm really sorry to hear you've been hoodwinked by another con artist on E Bay. It's getting terrible these days on E Bay.

BTW, heads up for everyone shopping for Duncans on E Bay:
There is a pickup listed as being a Screamin Demon up for auction in which the photo plainly shows a Carvin pickup (22 pole pieces are a giveaway) in a Duncan pickup box. Carvin pickups aren't bad, but know what you're bidding on.
