SD install in Ibanez?

I have a set of black winters in one Ibanez. the problem is that I had to round off the pickup screw holes to fit since most Ibanez have a round point to screw in the pup. Is there an easier way around this or can I order a set from SD with the correct screw hole setup? I want to install a new set in a different guitar but looks like the SD set has three screw holes.

Welcome to the forum!

SDs traditionally have 2 screw holes- the other 2 holes on either sides of the screw holes are not tapped. Some people use a Dremel to round off the mounting tabs, and some buy new baseplates.

I think that grinding down the tabs would be far easier than swapping baseplates. The baseplate will be soldered to the ground wire or outer shield. A nice Dremel Model #100, with accessories, can be had for about $26 on Amazon.

Yeah, it just depends on how careful you are with a Dremel. I know of people who sent their pickups to the SD factory to have them either altered or have the baseplate swapped if you weren't comfortable doing it. Unfortunately, there aren't standards on what those mounting tabs look like.

I had to cut down the winters when they were installed so I can do it again on a new set if necessary. At least I already have the gear to do that.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Seymour can alter the mounting feet in several different ways. The way I think I remember was for a direct mount into a Wolfgang or similar guitar. It would be worth an email to SD customer service to see if they can alter the feet in the way you need. It might just be a shop floor custom order too, instead of a full on custom order. SD is pretty accommodating when it comes to mods for customers.

Funny, I also have a RG570 but I'm putting Dimarzios in it. Super D/Liquifire. Leaving the S1 in place.

I'll email SD and see what they say. Thanks for the advice.

So the reply from SD was just a link to the custom shop order page. By doing this the cost is $160 per pickup...no thank you when the set can be had for $189. Anyone else had better luck with something this simple. I'll have to just trim the baseplate myself again I guess.

You can send a question to the Custom Shop using that link, to get a quote on exactly what you want. Yes, custom made pickups will be more expensive. But in this case, they are just modifying existing models, which they have certainly done before. Ask them how much they would charge for this service (or better yet, call).

Seriously, SD product design need to have a good look at the requirements for modern guitars.

I'm not a fan of the odd-sized trembucker design which requires the specialist Seymour Duncan "Trembucker" mounting rings. To me they are an unacceptable inconvenience, and they are not really usable on guitars with pickguards.

SD should ideally change to producing humbuckers with moderm spacing on a new base plate design. Base the design on Dimarzio F spaced pole spacing and triangular mounting tabs. That is THE defacto standard for bridge pickups in modern guitars. Neck pickups can be slightly narrower such as 50mm or ideally about 1.5 ~ 2mm narrower than the bridge pickup. Trembuckers should be EOL and phased out completely.

While you are doing it, please supply phillips head mounting screws, that are a lot faster and easier to install. Also less risk of scatching the guitar body than the old flat blade screw types.

Ive actually run an Fspaced pup in a humbucker ring over a fender pickguard.

Looked pretty decent

Yea. I think it might be better to call and make the order. Again, all I want is a different baseplate. Thanks for the replies.
