Hello everyone!
I hope I am posting this in the right section, but I would appreciate some assistance with my explorer.
For a to-the-point explanation:
-Guitar was completely grounded with original pickups
-installed a SD JB (4 conductor) in the bridge and now I have grounding issues (buzzes until I touch metal)
-Can't find where the problem is
For a more elaborate explanation:
Some background:
Along time ago, I dropped my guitar off to a local shop to have EMG's installed because I had no clue on how to do it myself. A few months ago, I went ahead and put the original Gibson pickups back in it after getting new pots and wire. It's probably important to note that I didn't have the patience to get any quality shielded wire, but rather got some hookup wire from Radio Shack. This wire was used to make the connections between the pots, switch, jack, etc. After assembling it, I had a grounding issue for sometime (i.e. I would touch the bridge, string, metal and the buzz would go away). That is when I learned about the wire to the bridge (again, I still hadn't much of a clue of what I was doing). I soldered a ground to that and fixed the problem, and everything was fine.
Fast forward to the present - I have installed a Seymour Duncan JB (4 conductor wire) and to the best of my knowledge, everything is done correctly as I specifically followed the instructions that came with the humbucker. I did nothing more than just swap out the bridge pickup. However, the grounding issue has returned. I did not remove any grounds, and have re-soldered the bridge pickup and the ground to bridge to be extra sure. The issue still remains and the guitar emits excessive buzzing unless I touch the bridge/strings/etc to ground it.
I would start going through likely spots to troubleshoot (like bad pots or wire), but the fact that it worked fine with the original bridge pickup perplexes me.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
