SD JB VS. SD JB Antiquity.

Well, it has less highs than the regular JB, but it is also made the way it was originally- long legs, maple spacer, single conductor, etc, If none of that is important to you, just get a regular one and save the $.

Is the JB Ant, merely a regular JB, with a little bit less shrill top end ? (talking tone wise here -forget about the ''older looks'')
Would you justify the price difference in price for the JB Ant ?
. . . or is there something i am missing ?

Thanks ;)

Its a bit more than just the top end is softer. It also feels a bit more compressed which for me is the biggest difference, You can dig in hard or touch softer and still sounds good. Its not something you would hear just in the mix. Its something that since it feels easier to play, you play better. Harmonics come easier, and just feel less stiff. The last custom shop pickup I had done was bascially a JB 35th anniversary but just short legged and its a great pup. I still have a couple modern JBs and they are good but theres something different thats hard to quantify. Its more in how it feels and responds than how it sounds. The best way I can equate the feeling is if you are loose the ant sings with you where a modern jb wants you to be more precise. If that makes any sense at all.

. . . thank you very much.

The JB and Ant JB are completely different pickups. The Ant isn't clogged up with shrill mids, sounds somewhat open and vintage, and sounds aged and rattly.

Remember that everything in a pickup's construction contributes to the sound, from the bobbin to the spacer material.
