SD Jimmy Page pickups...

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

i remember hearing a sound clip over at the les paul forum and the bridge pickup sounded dead on the tone in Moby ****.........the neck pickup was a little less impressive (as far as nailing the JP sound, it still sounded great)

i know Robert S. has thse, you may want to PM him or get his attention, i remember he loved em....

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

i know i am not the main character here but:

What is the diference between the JP model and the 59' model? Didn't Page played with a 59' Les Paul?

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

Did and still does on occassion. The JPs are wound hotter, 8.7k and an 8.2k neck if I am not mistaken (I'd have to check the box) and they have a slightly hotter and warmer tone than the 59s. The JPs are also a little spongier and not quite as tight sounding as the 59s, at least to my ears.

They are a variation on a theme, but they are definately different sounding from the 59s.

OK, you found me. What would you like to know?

Hey Robert!
Just wondering, after a few months of fun with them, what do you think ? Are they really THE pickup for Led Zep tones ? I was going for the good ol' 59's, but I was curious about them.

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

If your trying to nail a Led Zep tone, you need to focus on a album. On the first album, Page used a Telecaster. Ha! Check out the solo obn Stairway to Heaven. Also a Tele. Ha!

Folks always say "Jimmy Page sold alot of Les Pauls while playing a Telecaster"

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

hey Dogdude, yes, dont worry, I already know *alot* about Zepp... ;)

Let's say "live" tone... think Song remains the Same and others... I know a set of '59 is a fine choice, but was just curious about the JP.

Are you serious?!?! Stairway??? Holy crap!

I think I want me a telecaster now...

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

The particular Telecaster in question was given to Jimmy Page by Jeff Beck.................

Tele's can be great recording guitars............. :22:

Re: SD Jimmy Page pickups...

The 59s are in the ballpark but the JP set really does get all over his thing, especially his bridge pickup and combined pickup tones. I have my 59 RI with the JPs wired with the JP schematic and some of the phased stuff is dead on the money.

The JPs definately sound as advertised.

They can be great live guitars too

:blackeye: :duh: (Slapping forehead)

Of course!

I find that in general they need some moderate tweaking to alleviate tuning problems and such.

I gotta good tech who is awesome at getting "kinks" out of guitars........

He can take the most squirelly axe and turn it into a great player...........
