SD Neck humbucker question

Why don't the models like the Custom Custom, PATB-1, 78', Warren DeMartini, etc... have matching neck pickups? Wait... I know Eddie and Warren almost exclusively used the bridge pickups. It's seems like probably 1 in 50 people would only want a bridge pickup so why not take all the guesswork out and provide a matching set?

Re: SD Neck humbucker question

A lot of guys only replace the bridge pickup... and even not everyone has a dual humbucker guitar and not everyone wants a matching set but wants to mix and match their pickups... they could use a couple more neck pickups on the roster but not every model needs a dedicated neck pickup

Re: SD Neck humbucker question

They make a calibrated set for the '78. http://customshop.seymourduncan.com/78-model/

Also people have differing preferences with regards to how they like their neck pickups- some want a sound that is matched well to the bridge, some want a very different tone. Might just be that SD realized as a company that it doesn't make sense financially to make a neck version of certain pickups as a production pickup. I'm sure the '78 bridge sells more than the '78 neck for example. It's easy enough to match other models, ie the Jazz and 59 matching well to the JB is well known, so it's not necessary to make a neck version of every pickup.

Re: SD Neck humbucker question

I think its probably because hot pickups are best suited to bridge position. The SD site recommends a 59 as a good match for a custom bridge, or a jazz with a JB, a pearly gates or APH with a Custom Custom. There is little need for a hot neck because of the extra string amplitude in that position.

Re: SD Neck humbucker question

Though they do make the SH-6n which is quite a hot neck pickup. Especially with the double thick ceramic. I like mine better with an RCA4, it tames it down just a bit, but still hot never the less.

Funny enough the SH6N wasnt designed as a neck pickup, it started life as the SH7 Seymourizer II but became popular enough as a neck pickup that they decided to call it the SH6N

Re: SD Neck humbucker question

Besides, SD already makes the Screamin Demon which is a great neck pup to go with just about any bridge pup. Heck, it's a great bridge pup as well, but in the neck is where it really shines.
