I always wanted to a Parallel Axis Original Humbucker with an ceramic. I bet it will have the same tonality as Duncan Custom with a bit more volume. Otherwise i would look into actives like the Blackout.
You could try swapping in a double thick ceramic.

The Alt 8 is the first I thought of. It is as if a Custom got more mids, but retained the bass and got more output. It is a pretty aggressive pickup.
I'm wondering now how this would sound in a Les paul Standard? I have one LP That is a little thin sounding & another that sounds more compressed. Maybe i'll just put the Alt 8 in the Compressed one & the Custom in the Thinner sounding one.
The Custom is probably my all time favorite Duncan pickup. The tone is very similar to a P90 that I had in an old Les Paul JR. just more output. In fact, I recently put in a Custom Shop order for what will basically be a PATB-Custom. You may want to drop an email to MJ and see if she can cook you up a Custom style pickup with a bit more output. I’m sure she could make that happen.

How would the PATB-Custom Differ from the Original Custom? I'm thinking a pickup that is somewhere between a JB & a Custom. A Pickup that is nice & chunky, Warm, Aggressive with Some bloom on the low strings when strumming chords. I'd also like the Pickup to not be fizzy on the high end. I hate fizzy highs, i hate that it creates a Metallic sound on low strings due to the Fizz. I guess maybe i'm asking a lot but it's what i hear in my head. your custom video on youtube sound amazing, especially when you tune to Drop D.
Well, the PATB-Custom may sound exactly like a Custom. It may be for ascetics only. lol. I just really like the PATB look in a FR guitar. The PATB-1b is similar to the JB but different. I’m assuming the this custom shop PATB-Custom will be similar. We’ll have to see. Thanks for the compliment on my vid.
