they really dont execpt in spec. were talking numbers not tone....
I would just buy the BB's if that the tone you like cause it aint gonna happen with a totally different pup maker,they all got their own sig

I guess I should have mentioned what I have and what I'm after. Currently I have a 09 stock Epiphone lp standard that the toggle switch is going out on. So while I'm in there changing it out I'm going to gut it and start from scratch. I'm looking for suggestions on everything pots, caps, wiring style, and pups since this will be my first mod job. The tone I'm looking for us a Warren Haynes bluesy sound.

As said before, there's no Duncan model that's real close to a Burstbucker, but in some ways the Pearly Gates are closest, due to the "hair" on the edge of the note both models have (but in different ways). None of the other Duncans have that edge to them. But EQ-wise, the BBs are more like a Seth; more mids than PG.

LP's and PAF's are magic. For me, it would be narrowed down to my favorite PAF's: BB's or Seth's.

Seths, Alnico2Pros, '59s with A2 or UOA5 mags.
CTS 500k ohm audio taper pots.
Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch and output jack.
Orangedrop .015 - .022uf caps.
22 guage cloth push-back wire.
50's independant vol wiring scheme.
Those would be my personal suggestions.

I have a variety of Gibson PU's, and have swapped mags in almost all of them. They're high quality, but they have nowhere near the selection that Duncan and DMz do. I think BB's (not BBP's) are the best current-manufacture HB's Gibson has. As inventors of the HB in the first place, I wish Gibson would step up their game and get more competitive.
I don't know why Gibson uses '57's and the 490R/498T set so often. They sound nice with different magnets, but stock they're not that impressive. In each of those pairs, an A5 in the neck and an UOA5 in the bridge will give some very good tones.

The key here that makes the BB 1 + 2 special is 2 things, Scatterwound and Lack of Potting.
They are microphonic under high gain, and puts the Alnico II Pros and Pearly Gates out of the same category.

And this is purely cosmetic. They are still all slightly different.
And blueman335, I don't get why the 57's are used so often either. They're thrown in all the "traditional" les pauls and don't do them justice at all. Not sure if it's the alnico III or a different winding but they have zero clarity.

I had both the Gibson Classic 57 and then the 57+....Didn't care for them and sold them.They were stock and before the magnet swapping craze here on the forums(Say pre-2003)....Just thought they were pricey and not really "all that".Never tryed any of the BB series,probably never will...The Seths are very hard to beat in the PAF wind category!

I put a PG set into my low-end "pancake" Greco LP. It does a very credible "High & Mighty" type of tone. That is one of Warren Haynes' tones with Gov't Mule. I don't know if you'd characterize it as bluesy. Good for crunch chords. It grunts, it wails...
and all I used was a Classic 30 amp; and iirc an OCD pedal for a boost.

I think Seth's are what I'm going to go with after listening to all the tone comparisons on the SD site. I can always try something different if the Seth's aren't what I'm looking for.
