SD Vs. PRS

I have a PRS single cut and want to put some pickups with a little more depth to them. Im looking at the SD maybe the SH-10 (?) but not too sure. There are too many to choose from or the PRS Dragons or #7. How do these compare. Im looking for warm tones and crunchy dist. Im a big fan of Opeth and thats the sound I want. Thanks for the help!

Re: SD Vs. PRS

The Duncan Distortion or JB for the bridge and a Jazz, '59, or Full Shred for the neck should do the trick.

The only PRS pickups I've tried that I thought sounded good were the #7. If the JB/Jazz set is a 10/10, the HFS/Vintage Bass is about a 6.5/10. The Dragons didn't do a whole lot for me, either. The #7 set is pretty kick ass, though.

Thanks, I think so far my fav. is the #7s, but when i heard that Opeth was sponsored by SD i had to check'em out

btw i like the quote by ZW....where the Hell was Slash in the RS top 100?????

Re: SD Vs. PRS

Oh boy...get those SH-10's...they kick total ASS, expecially in mohogany. Mikael has been using them in 2 of his PRS's for about 3 years now.

Re: SD Vs. PRS

yea mike uses the full shred in both the bridge and neck. oh and nice job stealing that avatar deadskin.

Re: SD Vs. PRS

I have a set of PRS#7's in my LP clone that I really dig. Excellent harmonics. They're bright, crunchy and "tight" sounding, perfect for rhythm but the bridge pup is a little shrill for leads imo.

JBfromhell, is there some resemblence between the JB and the #7 bridge?? I want something similar to the #7 in my custom guitar, but with a little more fullnes when playing single notes on the treble strings, would the JB fit the bill? And also, is the output and harmonic ability quite similar between the two? I think the #7's are just the right output...

Re: SD Vs. PRS

PRS Singlecut for rock/metal? CC/59 If I had a singlecut, I'd start there.
On my McCarty, I use zebra C-5/59, which I love, but the CC is a bit fuller sounding, so I think you'd love it in a Singlecut. If you play more clean rhythm with the neck pickup, try a Pearly Gates or Jazz neck. If you do more highgain soloing on the neck, get a 59 or Seth (nickel).
