SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

The NEXT TO LAST CATEGORY! The last category is Second Chance - so the runner ups all get one last chance. In this category, however, it is ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!

It seems like this is the only place to put this guitar that I build from a solid block of Honduran mahogany, so here it is (solid rainfall here at the moment so i'll use an older pic and take a new one if the rain stops in the next couple of days).

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

Let's do this then...

Edit: Oh, and it's a Yamaha MSG fitted with a CC & Jazz

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

My entry, name of Simone:

Simone 15.jpg

Body is from the GFS factory buyout sale, neck from a 2012 Squire VM Jaguar. Pickups are Lace powered. Got them from a Chinese outfit on E-bay. Bridge is a Warmoth modified Mustang. The trem is from an original ('63-'65) Firebird III. (I'd removed the trem before the guitar was stolen back in 1975). Finish is pretty bad. Still has quite a bit of filling and sanding needed, but I was running out of good painting weather, so I threw a couple coats of black on to protect it so I could put her together.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

My newest . . . a BC Rich Jr V Deluxe.... 24 frets, OFR, *****y attitude...

complete with Kerry Kings Signature on the back of headstock, Possessed and Venom stickers (front and rear) and a ****load of drunken sweat stains running down the beast.... I think it fits the motif.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

LTD horizon, mahogany, neck-thru maple, quilt top, routed for a middle bucker and converted to chrome hardware, used the factory EMG battery box for the tone pot.

Bridge: pearly gates plus
Middle: pearly gates bridge
Neck: burstbucker 1
Bridge volume, neck/middle volume, master tone circuit with an orange drop and a bypass switch, 5-way wired like a strat.

Since I didn't make it to the PRS round, and it's not in the import polls.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

So, I was hoping for a builder's thread but since that wasn't to be I guess I can post her here:

This is my beloved Swing EZ-10, ironically one of the the lowest-end (now discontinued) models of a Korean guitar company, the way she was back in 2008 when I first got her:

I bought her after falling in love with her neck and from the get go she was a project in progress. It took me about a year to get her to her first "finished" state. This is her again in 2009:

And like pretty much everyone here, the "finished" state wasn't really the end of it, I continued to tweak her and mod her and this is how she looks like about 5+ years later:

The mods I did on her in the order I remember them in (the short version however is that if it wasn't made out of wood, it was swapped-out at least once):
  • Replaced the no-name stock Floyd with a Gotoh GE1996T + posts + claw
  • Replaced ALL the electronics with two push-pulls, the Treble Bleed mod plus a new Switchcraft 3-way and output jack
  • Replaced the distressed cosmo-black knobs and 3-way tip with black ones
  • Replaced the stock tuners with Sperzel Locking ones
  • Replaced the stock locking nut with an Ebanol non-locking one
  • Replaced the stock pickups with a Suhr Dough Aldrich in the neck and a Tom Anderson H3 in the bridge
  • Replaced the stock pu rings with a combination of flat black ones from Seymour Duncan topped with thin chromed metal ones
  • Upgraded the Gotoh Floyd's block with a Big Block from FloydUpgrades
  • Upgraded the Gotoh Floyd's claw with a Tremol-No
  • Reshaped the stock trem-cover to accommodate the Tremol-No
  • Reshaped the truss-rod cover so that I would fit through the old retention bar's screws without needing to remove them (the screws are still there to cover up the screw holes)
  • Replaced the pickups AGAIN with the incredibly awesome 2013 Seymour Duncan User Group Forum Fuglybuckers!!!

I know that monetary all this makes zero sense but she still is one of my most favorite guitars and I feel that I have more than got my money's worth from the countless hours that I've played with her!!!

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

These didn't make the Asian rounds so I'll put them up here....

The Darkstone is so dark, you see the entire universe when you stare into the jet black finish.
