Les Paul Custom. Just amazing. $400...Wow...

And what idiot doing the finishes thought, "AAA (or at least 'really nice') grade flame maple top? #YOLO Trolololol I'm going to cover it with a solid finish"? The ***hole probably then takes a plain top and does a trans or natural gloss finish.

EDIT (in advance): Don't take the second half of my post too seriously.

I have seen more than one LP hanging that made me ask "Do they know what looks good in a transparent top?" Like 3/4 flamed with a big patch of plain....Not surprised at all.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize Poll!!!!!

The Harmony kicks everything else in the teeth.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize Poll!!!!!

Voted for the Kramer. It is an aluminum neck, those are rare. I liked Mr.Potato ,the Spector and Magnum are very nice ones.

I remember playing one of those in the late 70's. The guy who owned it was trying to sell me his Fender Strat that had been retro-fitted with a pair of DiMarzio's, he had the original scratchplate available with it too, shame I didn't have any money as a 16 year old, or whatever I'd have been; probably wouldn't have cost me more than £150.00 at the time, if that.

I voted Kramer...

WHA?? Where is the $800 PRISTINE PRS Custom 24 I submitted which has been my #1 player since I bought it at a Pawn Shop in 11????
Sheer margin between worth and what i paid should have landed her here so??
Don't understand an over a $4K pristine PRS I paid $800 for not being in instead of Tater??

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize Poll!!!!!

The PRS post
Got a BUNCH of true PAWNSHOP finds I could post but my all time favorite is this one.
Bought this 2007 Royal Blue W/ Pau Birds and a Brazilian board PRS custom 24 in absolutely mint condition in the hard-shell with all the case candy and extras from Lee's Pawn Shop in Center Point Alabama for $800 OTD. This one is now my #1 gigging guitar and would be a $2800 guitar easily on the open market today.
It hung on the wall in that shop for 3 weeks priced at $899. I was broke at the time so I called a buddy of mine with a shop that had helped me out a couple times and told him to go pick it up. He didn't and 3 weeks later when I went back and it was still hanging on the wall I couldn't stand it anymore and dropped a $100 bill on it to hold (know the shop owner well) then sold one of my other guitars to someone here on this board to pay it off.
And yes I do still own her + have the receipt from LEES PAWN to prove it all!

I passed on that for a couple of reasons;

1. Mr Potato is multi-wood natural neck thru awesome from God-Knows-Where-Jon-Bu korea. For $100
2. The PRS is pretty ridiculously awesome for the price, but it is a ridiculously awesome PRS. Of course it is awesome.
3. We have never seen Potato before
4. PRS is just, well, a touch austentatious in the spirit of the category. Note that I eliminated killer Wine LP standard also.
5. Dude - It's a potato.

Apologies if I chose the wrong one. I did this early. I still say stick with the Potato. PRS may show again in Flame, High End, or Open Categries...

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize Poll!!!!!

I voted star.
#1 because I love stars. Rare and sexy!
#2 because btmn is the man!
#3 because pawn star sounds like...well...you know.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - Category 7; Pawn Shop Prize Poll!!!!!

Some cool pawnshop style guitars in here, but that LP Custom is going to run away with it, that thing is all kinds of awesome at any price and being a $400 yard sale find with hidden flame just puts it over the top. Very nice.

If not for that ringer of an LP, I would have voted for the Star.

Gonna be a stiff competition to cross that LP.

Potato is a cool unusual guitar that's for sure. However it's really not usable right now as the electronics stink (pickups are dark and muddy + the pots are junk and the input is noisy I will have to gut her to get it right). and the trem is in need of a replacement as it doesn't want to hold the strings in the blocks. I had fits with the G string trying to get it to hold in the block and tune to pitch. I will have to drop a real Floyd on her and some electronics to be able to to trust it enough to actually play it out.
She will make a really nice guitar when I finish with her though as it is well built as an instrument.
The PRS however was pure perfection when I bought it right down to intonation and set up so---.
The PRS out of all the pawn shop deals i have had however was my best one from a standpoint of some thing I actually will use.
IMO would have given that Paul a real run head to head

Mmm...

As much as I love that Star I gotta go with the Aluminum Kramer. That's just too much guitar for the money.

Sweet category. Love em all.

Would not have been had my PRS been included.
Unlike the Paul my PRS was perfection off the rack and needed no work to be what it now is other than just a simple restring and clean up. However it was not included here so this one is a stacked deck for the Paul!

Stacked deck for the Paul which did not resemble at all what you see here when purchased.
Out of what was selected I agree on the Kramer being the best bang for the $$ as a true pawn shop prize.
