SDUG Ultimate Axe; SUPERSTRAT Entrees

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe; SUPERSTRAT Entrees

There are too many awesome (!!!) guitars in here already and I'm not really looking to compete but just add to the eye candy...

my twin Cort X-6's (X6-VPR & X6-SA)

^^ Lord Voldemort's axe of choice on the left there.

Thanks for the compliments!

I don't know for certain because I have not tried it, but based on my knowledge that the Roland GR-20 synth unit has foot switch controlled modes for triggering glissando type pitch changes against a note that is held steady on the guitar, I would say that either the GK3 pickup cannot deliver the level of detail necessary to yield a smooth and accurate glissando, or the GR-20 synth unit cannot adequately interpret the GK3 pickup's changing, microtonal output if you the player are changing the note via the trem bar. *But* the GR-20 is not "current" technology - the GR-55 replaced it as of about 2010, and there one or two other synth unit manufacturers on the market as well...

*EDIT* I'm just curious: what synth-type sounds are you envisioning wanting to employ a glissando-type pitch change against? I.e. a keyboard type sound? A strings-type sound? Etc

Oh, I wasn't thinking anything specific, just whether it accurately tracks the pitch decrease as you depress the trem arm, regardless of the kind of tone patches you're using. In the early 2000s, Ibanez came out with the Double Edge (a Lo Pro with piezo saddles; first Floyd based bridge with a piezo, I think), where they sought to overcome the issue of trem use and piezo tracking ability, so it got me wondering about the ability of MIDI pups to do that when I saw your guitar.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe; SUPERSTRAT Entrees

I have a real soft spot for the Super Strats and my all time favorites are the Chicago Custom USA built Grover Jackson designed 1995 Washburn MG's I own. Amazing playing and sounding guitars that are flat shred machines with the 20 radius boards and super fast necks. These will stay in tune with the best Floyd equipped SS's with the Goto locking tuners and Wilkys and play circles around guitars costing 10X as much today!!
Best looking one is the MG 120.

I've entered this one before and I'll do it again. 1988 Kramer Baretta, single reverse-zebra JB, single volume control, Original Floyd Rose, maple/rosewood neck. The graphic was painted by Dennis Kline. This is one of my two best sounding guitars and it resonates like mad.

This one like Evan's Tele gib should not be allowed :). It wins hands down ....... :).. This is honestly the best looking Kramer I have ever seen.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe; SUPERSTRAT Entrees

Would a 1xHB, single-locking vibrato guitar go in this category, or will there be a better category for such a thing later on? I consider it a Super-Strat, I guess, because I wouldn't know what else to call it.

My entry, Ibanez SA 120. Upgraded with a JB in the bridge & Jazz neck. The pickups make the guitar sound very Lively compared to the stock pups. Position 2 & 4 are very nice. I cant seem to get better pics. The Sat pro Trem works very well.

I'll give it a shot:

- Series 1 Peavey Vandenberg, serial #1825

- Reverse slant SxH pickup configuration, pictured here with a Hot Rails neck and JB bridge w/ Gibson style 3 way switch.

- Kahler 2710 "Killer" double locking trem system

- 24 frets, 24.75" scale, ebony board, super thin neck.

- Violin cut body and scalloped headstock

An 80's superstrat, without a doubt.

If this is going to be open for a while, I might have an entry by the end of the weekend, but I gotta put it together first. :naughty:

I have many that I think have more bling but I thought I would go with the guitar player that started my love of guitar.

Like Ascension I have a soft spot for the Grover Jackson era Washburn MGs, my favorite of the lot (I have three, two from Ascension and one from BloodRose) is my MG-122 but I feel the most SuperStratty is this, my MG-104:

This will be open for a bit as we have a couple of polls about to go up.

Also, probably another two-heats thread...
