SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

Well, I just ordered two. They are not a set, though. I ordered a black/nickel neck for the Schecter or Tele, and a black/gold bridge for a guitar to be built or bought. Yes indeed .... let the savings begin!

10:30 PM .......... technically it's still the 31st, right? In Texas and in California it is anyway.

Allright, I ordered another one for the bridge. (speed2dirt, check p.m. for lousy clipage.)

Thanks! Those pickups sound amazing. The looks is strangely attractive too.

MY PHAT STAPLE ARRIVED!!
the underside is very interesting, those big alnico polepieces are taller than i expected and all appear to be grounded, so i assume it'll be nice and quiet...

i'm so excited to get it home and fit it, it even looks classy.

thankyou Maricela!

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

I didn't get mine today. Anyone got a picture of the bottom of the pickup. I want to know what to expect when it arrives.

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

Anyone else still waiting for a response?

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

I still don't have a start date on my job otherwise I'd have picked up a pair of these babies and just put them up!

Not exactly. I submitted my order after hours on the 31st and received an email autoreply from MJ saying she will be out of the office until August 10.

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

Were we supposed to get an order confirmation? I emailed MJ to confirm payment but nothing followed that email. I hope she really didn't get thrown behind bars in that MDA advertisement she sent me. lol

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

MJ is taking a week of vacation. I'm sure you'll get the confirmation from her when she returns.

Black & Nickel for me - now, new build or mod the Soapbar SE?

you won't be modding a soapbar II SE to put one of these in; i just checked and my phat staple is only slightly shorter than my SE is thick.

this phat staple measures roughly 31.6mm from the top of the pole-piece (which protrudes about 1.4mm above the top of the bobbin) to the bottom of the pole-piece height adjustment screws (the lowest point on the bottom of the pickup). i'm not a mathemetician but i think that's more than 1.2"

in case anyone's wondering, my SE soapbar II measures 44.6mm deep.

i sat the PS loose in the neck pocket of my LP (long-tenon), put the bridge back on and started tuning the strings to pitch and they don't clear the poles, so i'd definitely need to route in the LP's neck cavity to fit it. i imagine height adjustments would be interesting

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

So you basically just need a small trench the length underneath the pole pieces or something like a small crater shaped indent under each pole piece rather than dremelling the whole pickup cavity correct?

Yes, I drilled three holes with a 5/8" forstner bit without a drill press. It basically leaves three overlapping "crop circiles", each which accomodates two of the assemblies. If you wanted to route straight across down the center, you can do that too.

Thanks Frank, that sets my mind at ease then.

I'm waiting for my bridge one to sort out the woodworking.

I plan to do a precision job so that the pickup sits hard on the wood at the right height.

If drilling is sufficient as opposed to routing that would be great. Routers do occasionally tumble or tip or otherwise get loose and can tear up a guitar real good. I prefer to only route on Fender style bodies with neck detached and some very solid armor on the parts I want unaffected.

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

be warned - you're probably looking at a couple inches of wood
i originally thought i'd be able to sand some clearance off the butt of the neck but that ain't going to happen

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

I'll just hammer them in...

Re: SDUGF Special Offer - Custom Shop Phat Staple at an Amazing Discount

heh. have someone standing by with a camera; the shot of you trying the shake the broken bits of staple pick-up off the hammer will be priceless
