how servicable are these. can people still service these. it's from the 60's so have many parts changed since then, if so how hard would it be to find them.
how reliable are the reverb coils, i've heard they're bad. how reliable is the amp in general, answer soon please.

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

Well, they were cheap amps to begin with and time is not kind to them. The reverb pans go pretty often, but you can get replacements for those; the reverb was not very good to begin with, tho. Expect to change the filter caps and retube at least to get some idea what it's supposed to sound like. Some people love them (a fat greasy tone)...

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

I have a 1483 which I prefer. Outside of filter caps, that amp has the same tubes and iron it was sold with, I got it a couple years ago. It is a screamer, with more snarl than the Twin Twelve. I gig and rehearse with mine several times a month. My other guitar player just got one, I did the filter caps on his, amp is awesome. We had both 1483s at Sundays rehearsal. Twas the shizzle....

I owned a Twin Twelve, definately liked it but it is tonally just a bit more compressed than the 1483, just a preference thing as to what you like better. The verb on those amps is very lofi, not a reason the purchase that amp. If you hit my soundclick link, listen to Fat JoJo, I did it with the 1483 as well as all the live tracks.

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

I had a twin twelve and they are fairly easy to service...simple amp on the insides for the most part, and it will need servicing but it's a great basis to rebuild a great amplifier. I liked mine, but needed other stuff more badly than I needed another amp, so it went. Did you get the cab as well or just the amp?

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

I have owned one for just under a year now. I don't gig but I play it constantly and once a week VERY loud a practice. It has been very reliable so far, and yes the reverb sucks.

i'm getting the cab as well. this thread kinda helps me decide wether to get this amp or not

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

this may sound a bit crazy, but I think someone should do a good repro version of some of the Silvertone amps. They're that good, in a funky blues kinda way.

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

so should i get one? i like the sound it's the whole 60's thing, does it really matter?

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

Those old Silvertone's ROCK! aren't they PTP wiring? should be a breeze to upgrade or service.

I agree 100 percent, it would be a huge hit.

Yes. If you dig the 60's, yes.

EDIT: And don't worry about the reverb. The on-board trem on those amps is WICKED.

Re: sears silvertone twin twelve 1484

Don't hesitate to pick that Silvertone up. Very cool tones locked up inside that cheap Sears amp!
