SEGD (Someone Else's Guitar Day)

Re: SEGD (Someone Else's Guitar Day)

Charvel 750 xL. The grail of grails. Hunted for five years before I finally found mine. Love it. See if you can keep it! :D
And yes, basswood body, maple top and neck on the opaque coloured models (mahogany on the semi-transparent finishes)
Color options were pretty limited on that model, is the blue paint the only one on there or are there layers hidden underneath?
You could alwasy ask teh owner if he'd be interedted in a neck re-shape? Mine is this odd D-shape and while not a dealbreaker, I would've certainly preferd it a bit more rounded.

The arch top is maple. Not sure about the body. Basswood? Maple? Alder?

Why you say the grail of grails Coma? Not knocking it, just asking honestly. I had a model 5 once. Rare on that had a slant single in the neck.. kick my own A$$ for selling it. New owner loves it..

So, what is new color we are thinking about?

That's a Model 5FX and they're somewhat rare. They started life as Model 5As but single hum neck-thru wasn't a big seller, so they routed them for slanted singles in the neck. Why they didn't just add a 2nd humbucker route and convert them to regular Model 5s I'll never know.

No worries, brodeo. I love the Les Paul sound and neck length, but hate the limited upper fret access. The 750 is, AFAIK, the only guitar does a decent crossover between superstrat and les paul, that is short scale (set) neck, mahogany body with carved maple top, dual HBs. And yummy, yummy Floyd Rose. The closest thing you can come today is the ESP Horizon, and that still has 25.5" scale length. Add that to the 750 being built for one year only, and it becaomes quite a rare axe.

So yeah, it's subjective of course, but while guitars may vary in quality, when people talk of "grail" guitars, its usually a Fender strat or a Gibson LP and those are hardly rare finds. Sure, certain vintages are worth more and harder to come by, but you'll always be able to find a LP Std or Std Strat. A mahogany short-scale superstrat will be much, much harder to come by.

Close to the old color, but with some lightning graphics painted on.

Love it!

Re: SEGD (Someone Else's Guitar Day)

Better late than never...a short hospital stay stopped progress for a while, but I got back on 'er.

Replaced a chunk of missing wood off the pointy headstock, repaired a few pretty good dings and chunks, 2 coats of automotive primer, block sand, another coat of primer, prepped out

And finally.....color!!!!!!
Got a mask made to paint the logo, will do that and the lightning bolts over the weekend, and then clearcoat

For now....it happened
