Sell me a chorus

Re: Sell me a chorus

I was curious about the Julia but most sound clips I've herad, its warbly as all hell. Not sure if its because everybody insists on using the vibrato at the same time or something.

Setting the DCV knob less towards V and more C takes warble out. selecting the waveform right for what you want helps too. The one I tried sounded really nice and lush and only got warbly when I dialed it in that way.

Eventide.

Which part of "about €180/$210" did you not understand? :D

In all seriousness though, thanks for all the input, guys. Right now it sort of stands between the Providence Anadime and the two MXR pedals - based on clips alone, the 134 sounds closer to what I have in mind, but then again, I'm not keen on having to swap my PSU in the process just to accomodate it. Am still planning to do a proper music store trip. Of course, that Catalina certainly throws a bit of a wrench into my plans, heh.

I also found out that Fromel offers an interesting mod kit that supposedly cures the issues I have with the BF2, but I'm not sure my soldering skills are up to snuff.

Neunaber inspire, end thread

Granted thats $40 over budget but well worth it. Even if you dont get it, youtube it seriously.

The other option is neunaber chroma (can find used v1 for around $150) or new for like $200 some.

Man, those sound awesome. CURSE THIS WRETCHED G.A.S!

I am noticing a trend in basically all the videos I've watched on the tube - every demo sounds bright as ****. Bottom scooped out, Fendery style bright tone. Is that just the nature of the beast or is everyone demoing choruses just utterly lacking in imagination? Bright and shimmering sounds fine when playing clean, not so much when trying to add depth to a metal riff or solo.

Probably just how the eq'd it. In terms of neunaber, you can dial it back and its not bright. I own chroma. The have several algorithms to choose from. Nice thing is if its stereo pedal, you can turn it into any of their pedals. Say you want a delay, it can be changed to a delay, reverb, mod, etc.

Im actually going place an order for the inspire. It has a delay option on it as well which removes the need for a 2nd delay.

Re: Sell me a chorus

Hmmm, I looked it up on their web page now. I'm not sure stereo has anything to do with it, its using modeling the same way TC does, I guess, with the added benefit of on-the-fly swap if you have the expression pedal connected.

It's pretty clever, unless of course you need two different effects simultaneously. Then you're still gonna need a second pedal.

Only stereo pedals have the capability to change algorithms. Mono pedals do not have the usb port. Yes similar to TC, but unlike TC you have access to All algorithms. With tc if you get a chorus your stuck with a chorus. Granted it can be multiple chorus types but in the end its still a chorus. Neunaber gives you any pedal from their line up.

Keep in mind only stereo pedals have access to the software. Software is free, you can download andbrowse without owning a pedal. Immerse and inspire are not software capable, but have already most of that type algorithms already on it.

Also neuanber is strymon, eventide quality where as tc, while good, is still in the vein of boss and mxr.

Re: Sell me a chorus

It may or may not work for you.

I've owned so many pedals over the last couple decades. Boss, MXR, TC, Cusack, Mr. Black, Alexander, EHX, Catalinbread, to name a few. ALl, plus more, were on my board for sometime and immediately replaced. The only pedals that stayed were Neunanber and Polytune. I'm not endorsed, nor have any stock in the company, but Neunaber is rack shelf quality at a solid price. USA made. Good customer service. I own 4 and ordering the 5th one soon.

The cool thing about the chorus is they have so many varieties; stock is more of a pitch shifter. By that I mean, you don't get the tradition warble from choruses. If you want that, they have it to. They also have Tri chorus, dual tri chorus, hex chorus, vibe style, chorus/delay, chorus/verb, etc.

Unfortunately, you can't combine effects without another pedal (similar to eventide h9, strymon mobius). They do offer an EXP controller that works with Expanse series (stereo pedals) that allows you save 8 presets (the 8 presets can be any effect from their library) out of one pedal. No stomp box to date allows you to completely change the pedal type. TC lets you change within parameters of effect. Eventide H9 is more of a multieffect unit which costs like $600 for max. Resale holds up well as well.

Re: Sell me a chorus

I've always been curious about those. I was looking for one when I got my Analogman, but I never found any good sound clips of it.

I thought of making some sound clips, but I would have had to fire up an old WinXP computer in a distant corner of my bedroom. Or buy an entire new recording rig, and that kind of thing could really eat at the cookware budget.

Re: Sell me a chorus

They don't make them anymore and I greatly regret ever selling mine, but the Ibanez RC-99 was one of the best chorus pedals I ever played. They're available used on Reverb.com and other sites in the $115-$180 range and I think they're definitely worth it. They're big, they're bulky, and they're glorious.

Re: Sell me a chorus

I accidentally stumbled upon the Maxon ASC10 yesterday. Not a lot of demos of them floating about, but what I heard sounded right up my alley. Too bad there's nowhere I could try it out.

Re: Sell me a chorus

I'll recommend the TC Electronic Corona Chorus. Their TriChorus was awesome, but the Corona does that and more and is so much cheaper.

That looks like a great pedal.
