Selling a good guitar...

I'm thinking bout selling my strat and upgrading to a 57 reissue, but I'm getting that feeling I might miss it. The Pearly Gates HB gives me a lot of versatility and I like the Texas Specials for soloing, but I'm a huge fan of the vintage feel and V-neck. They're also relatively cheap for the NZ dollar. What to do?

You should only sell a guitar if you don't like it, or if you've already sold all the members of your family and still need to raise more cash.

If you like your current guitar (and it sounds like you do), don't get rid of it just because you want another one. Trust me, I've done it and regretted it. :smack:

Keep it if you like it at all. I've sold so many things I wish I kept, let's name them:

A no-name 1970s LP copy with pretty decent pickups and a great vintage vibe (where are you now???)
Yamaha strat [cheapo, but fast and friendly to me]
Marshall JCM800 head (stupid, stupid, stupid...)
Marshall Valvestate head
Fender 2-12" cab (could take anything you threw at it)
Marshall 2-12"
Boss Super Overdrive
Ibanez TS-9
Ibanez contoured bass
Rack compressor

there's always the third option too; if you like the feel of the 57 V neck, you could always just get an aftermarket Fender neck for your current guitar and switch it. They shouldn't be hard to find, I've seen 'em on musician's friend. that could be a good alternative.

+1...... Another option is to buy a replacement neck with the "V" shape. It will give you the feel you want and still keep your guitar in your hands!

I have only sold one of my guitars that I've acquired over the last 30 years. I don't miss that one. All of the others I purchased for a reason and, if I can help it, won't ever sell. Equipment is an investment, and a lot of guitars go up in value as they get older. I think you should hang onto the Fender.

I agree with this. People probably question my comments in this thread because I've sold so much "great" gear. But in almost every case, the gear I've sold just wasn't hitting that tone I was hearing in my head.

If you really like your Strat, keep it. You'll regret it otherwise. I've sold too many great guitars over the years (in some cases for tuition, so I had no choice), but I miss every one of them.
