Selling your guitar in pieces?

I am sure you have seen on flea bay that over the last few months there has been a pre-ponderance of guys splitting/breaking up guitars and then selling them off individually. Uusally this is so that they can get more then actually selling it whole. This is sometimes really peculiar to me as I am sure that if you got in at the right moment you could buy the guitar from the seller before he breaks/splits it apart and thereby save yourself a fortune?

So my question is have any of you done this yourself and have you actually made more money than selling the guitar whole? I would have thought that the additional fees, the packaging, postage would wipe off any additional profit that you could make.

If anyone else wants to comment then please do so.

i thought about trying that with a tele, but i wanted to keep the neck and sell the rest of it. I thought i could sell the rest of it for a body that i liked but i ended up selling the thing whole and it turned out to be a mess because the guy that won was not a good person to deal with. I should have broke the guitar apart.

Yes. When I sold my '78 Hamer Sunburst with a twisted neck I took it all apart and sold everything separately. It was the right thing to do because it wasn't selling in one piece. Lew
