Semi-hollow jazz guitar nweck pickup alone choice

I have a cheap, but good playing, Ibanez Artcore 'Pat Metheny' model deep semi-hollow in maple which is stock with an Ibanez Super58 in the neck (the only pickup). But the bass in the Super58 is dull, although the mids and trebles are good. I know how to adjust pickups and their polepieces and have done that.

If I wanted a pickup with more output than the SD '59 neck , a strong and defined bass, and a lot of that 'sweet', chimey sound somewhat like a Telecaster in position 2 (bridge and neck together)..... what might do it? Maybe a DiMarzio Air Classic PAF or SD Custom ?

The Ibanez PM model is by no means a "cheap" guitar. But as any asian made guitar, the components are NOT top quality. So, what the doctor ordered is a complete rewiring using good quality 500K CTS pots, .022 pf Sprague orange drop caps and good braided cable.

The best sounding p'ups for a guitar like yours are the Seth Lovers if you're thinking in having a creamy smooth Jazz box.

For a slighty Rockier sound, nothing can beat the '59 set, specially for the price.

If you're thinking to do the wiring yourself, you can order everything from here:

Tell him you're a forumite and you'll get a 5% discount, I think. Plus, you'll be dealing with a really nice person to boot!

Don't overlook the Screamin' Demon as a possibility here.

no seth lover wd be to mellow imo the Sh2 is a good start or Ant-Neck, SH1N.
I had one and was not open enough f. semi.
Try a GFS 59er or Mean90 / Dream90 / Dream180(split!) - quite cheap and very good.
DiMarzio Vintage models may work. I did not check so far.
a WCR crossroad neck ? ok wd be perhaps more expensive then the guitars value.

+1 for LtKojak's overall component upgrade suggestion.

I would be tempted to give the Super 58 a chance through a better set of pots and caps before investing in another pickup.

There have been several good PU suggestions already but my vote goes for the SD Pearly Gates N humbucker (must be covered type) or an Antiquity. Alternatively, for greater versatility whilst retaining a true Jazz sound, consider a P-Rails mounted on a Triple Shot surround.

From your description you want something with A4 or A5 mags. In the Duncan production line I would recommend the Screamin Demon first (ignore the name), and a 59 bridge as my second choice. The Demon's big tight bass, flat EQ and presence fit your description to a T. IMO the A2 models like the PG/Seth/A2pro will be too loose in the bass for you.

If you're more adventurous, you could add the A2Pro and Seth models with a magnet swap; an A2P/A5 (A5Pro?) has a little tele neck in it. Again, use a bridge version.

this is where i was going with my recommendation of a jazz neck model

*I* would like a seth or ant if i had that guitar .. .maybe a 59 too .. but *HE* wants tighter bass ...
