Semi Open back vs Closed back?

So I am looking to buy a 2x12 cab that does not weight too much and the Fender BB212 seems quite interesting with only 36 lbs (16.3 kg) and I have read good reviews on the Celestion V-Type speakers. But I like versatility and was thinking a closed back does have (in theory) a tighter low end response when playing metal which I really like to play so how much does the semi open back (see picture below) can make the low end response into loose? Is it too much of a difference?

Why not just get a convertible cab?

That would be an easy cab to make your own gasket-sealed conversion-board for.
Just a long rectangle board that goes right over both those holes,,,,,with an equal size thin foam glued on the entire inside of the board.
When screwed down it would all seal-up without vibrations.

Has anyone tried the new Katana cabinet 212? It is open/closed convertible.

hi IMENATOR
had a guy in my band with a Katana 100 2x12 combo. Not real impressed with the Katana speakers. The combo is standard 1/2 open back, but I don't think it would be worth your money to buy a cab and immediately replace speakers...
My vote for the V type Celestions in the Fender.
If you can do it financially, the Avatar 2x12 cab loaded with actual V30s would possibly be nice for your style...maybe a different more high power speaker but two v30s puts the cab at 120watt so ok if you like the tone of v30s.

I have a Rocket Cab convertible. The fascination with going open/closed wears off quick. Most times I don't have time to tune let alone open or close my cab.

FWIW Fenders cabs from their entry level to the professional level are freaking fantastic. I would grab the cab based on that merit alone.
