Sending my TS9 to Analogman

I have been looking for a better OD ever since I started using an OD 20 some years ago. I always give up on the TS9, then come back to it a few months later. Same thing always happens...it's too thin and the bass gets lopped off of my tone. I try other OD's at stores, or probe forums for suggestions, but I never have actually pulled the trigger on a new pedal, I just end up putting up with the TS9 when I need an OD.
Lately I have been spending most guitar time with my Orange TT into a 1x 12 greenback cab. I was actually close to giving up on the TT but took a shot and put NOS glass in it for the win. It's a different amp now, not boxy & fizzy. Now it's clear but fat with a bite that can be dangerous to the uncool. It's a very responsive amp too, extremely dynamic.
Anyway I need an OD as I like to have the TT with a mellow light breakup that can easily be pretty clean with the guitar volume rolled off. So I need the OD for when I need more drive.
Ok enough rambling. I have decided to send my TS-9 off to Analogman for his TS 808 mod and I hope it will transform it. I was hoping to get some feedback here.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

the modded ts9's ive heard from him have always sounded really good but ive never owned one myself

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

Sell it and buy a Way Huge Green Rhino. It's similar to a TS, but you can control how fat the low end is.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

I had a brown 808 mod. It was really nice. But i like the fulltone and even the mxr gtod better.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

I have a few Tube Screamers. One is a TS9 that John Spina modded for me & it has been on my board since I got it. I really don't remember what he did to it, but I really use it more as a clean boost. I have the gain turned all the way down, tone & volume set to give me a bit of a volume boost when I solo. My TS808 was made by Exssive & it rocks pretty damn hard. I use this in a different amp. Its a killer pedal. I just bought a third TS9 that is on another board & it works really nice. Not as much drive as the TS9 but its got some chop to it. I like Tube Screamers....

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

Got this back today. Kudos to Analogman for the best customer service there is. The pedal sounds much better than I had hoped for. It's fat, thick, warm, rich, and the bass is all there. The top end isn't harsh. Just awesome.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

Frank Lee is glad to hear it. He has the Silver Mod and enjoys same.

Thank you.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

I've had both the 808 mod and the silver. Love them both.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

Yeah I like it so much I may buy another reissue of Craigslist when I spot one and send it to him for the Silver. No rush though, this has cured my gas temporarily.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

It surprises me you are mentioning no loss of lows...Mikes mods don't really "correct" the low end cut.

The Classic 808 mods just turn a stock TS-9 reissue into a a TS-808 inside.

The silver mods do pull the mid hump down a bit but do not pull it all out and still don't change much if any of the low end content.

The silver mods are cool if you like the TS overall but want less midrange but still want to retain the TS character.

Re: Sending my TS9 to Analogman

It definitely does not lose the bass when you engage it. It's much fuller than stock.

Maybe fuller than stock but it uses stock TS-808 values, it has some bass loss.

I'm not trying to back and fourth with anybody about it just letting folks know that if they are looking for a TS with no bass loss the AnalogMan TS-9/808 is not the answer...

You can even ask Mike, he'll tell you.
