just bought an e609 silver. it seems to have a real quality tone. a guy i know at the guitar shop recommended this and said that sennheiser is one of the best you can get. compared to the sm57, which was only about $10 cheaper, it really seems to deliver.

i really don't know, but i think it's very good. i got this one for $98. i think it was a great deal. what do you know about these mics? anyone use them?

Re: Sennheiser Mics

I like em, I use em.
more transparant than an sm57, but 57's have a mid range bump that alot of folks like.

Re: Sennheiser Mics

I by far prefer the E609 over a SM57 . I used to use one simply draped over the front of my cab I can only put it this way, with the E609 it sounds like my cabinet was amplified , with a SM57 my cab sounds mic'd
so yeh, in other words what Marvar said , except Im not one of the folks who likes the 57s mid bump

Re: Sennheiser Mics

actually personal...I'd just as soon toss in the extra $30 or so bucks and buy the e906, which is even better...but I definitely say the e609 is better than an SM57 (which is still a great mic!)

Re: Sennheiser Mics

Neither is better than the other... they're incredibly different sounding mics, and each has it's application. Both very cool, though.

Re: Sennheiser Mics

For me it really depends on the amp I'm micing. The Sennheisers can sound great on darker sounding amps because they have a more open top end, whereas a 57 will often smooth out a brighter amp by focusing on its mids. Conversely, an e609 on a bright amp can get quite glassy, and a 57 can seem muddy if the amp's natural tone is dark. Get used to the Sennheiser and then try a 57 down the track. The e609 is a good place to start.
