Series/Parallel Switch Orientation >>>>>>>>>?

Howdy everyone!

Please help me out here with a few wiring questions.

I used the 2hum_vol_tone_3way
diagram to wire a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom with a push/pull switch.

My question was, which position is series and which is parallel? From the way it sounds, it seems like in the up (pull) position is series, and down (push) is parallel.

Are am correct in thinking this? If I wanted to switch the orientation to that series was the default push position, could I just flip the diagram around when wiring?

Here's the way I have the switch wired up and oriented now:

Hey Commander Bee! Welcome to the SD forums!

I have no real input on your question but it's interesting that the diagram you posted has the top lug on the DPDT switch going to ground... different from the other Duncan diagram about splitting coils.

Anyway just saying "Hi".

And a warning to the Duncan forumites... Mazi Bee is a true purveyor of total Metal Mayhem... and now he's here! :headbang:

Hey Man - good to see you here! You question today on HC is what drove me here! Looks like an awesome place!

By the way, have you ever used push/push pots? I bought a pair to use on my Nelsonic LP, and they crapped out within a few weeks. Absolute junk. Now I have to go and redo that whole guitar. Pain.

I have used push/pull pots before... actually I could have opened up my Kramer and saw how I wired it but I'm at work now (and it was late last night). The pot I got from a local store has worked well in the Kramer for a few years but it's starting to flake a bit.

Yeah these Duncan forums are an outstanding source of info. Tons of knowledge on here. I used to be on here all the time but was away for a while and my account got zoinked. But now cvogue is back! :D

Also there's very little of the silliness you get at HC, there's some fun going on but mostly on topic stuff, and Duncan is very cool about content, you can praise Dimarzio and bash Duncan and won't get zoinked. Although it's seldom that folks bash Duncan anywhere really.

Actually I was asking if you've ever used PUSH/PUSH pots. They are different from PUSH/PULL. They operate smoother and faster. You just keep pushing down to switch coils, you don't have to pull up.

Of course since they completely crapped out, all their good qualities are pretty much worthless...... :grumble:

Oh, duh! Sorry mis-read your post. Hmm... I'd think those might be a bit of a pain since you can't see what state your pickups are in, true? But if they crap out after a week they're no good anyway!

Well, when you push down, it still pops up into the "pull" or "up" position, so yeah you can tell.

The mechinism on the push push is what gave out. I wish I could find a higher quality one to use...but every one I've seen seems to be the same.

LOL, well I should just leave this thread completely given my total cluelessness on this topic! :smack:

Don't leave! You're the only one keeping this thread on top!! ;)

Plus, you are learning new and valuable information on crappy electronics!!

Yes to both questions - up is series, flip the wiring around for down to be series. :)

And welcome to the forum. ;)

True, OK I'll stay if only to bump my commander's thread!

And what can I say... learning can be painful sometimes!

Awesome! Thanks ArtieToo!

So, would simply changing the wiring on the top 4 lugs be sufficient? Like this:

No. You must flip it like a mirror image. Move the black, green, and ground to the top. Leave the red and white in the middle with the white extension going to the bottom.

Edit: Like this:
