Everyone should own an 800 in their life. Get a good one and it will be hard to ever get rid of (stay away from the channel switching models, and if it has 6550's, scrap 'em/rebias for EL-34s).
Not fam with the Ornage really. I messed around with some years ago (be4 hey started getting poular again), but can't really recall much about the sounds. I seem to remember it sounding something like a Hiwatt.

The Orange is more my style, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Marshall.
I had a 1988 horizontal input EL34 model that had that Marshall crunch, but the cleans surprised me. I thought they were better than some people give them credit for. Not crystal Hiwatt type clean, but nice & thick for a good bluesy tone or classic rock rhythms.
I guess the more popular (and more expensive!) vertical input models main claim is they are the earlier models, which are still PTP.
I'm sure the Marshall pros will be here shortly & describe them a little more eloquently than I can.......GOOD LUCK 2 nice choices!!! :beerchug:

Funny, I was just thinking the other day that it would be cool to have another amp (although I couldn't afford one right now). I voted for the Marshall but that's only because I don't know much about Orange amps. You can't go wrong with either, but if price is a consideration the Marshall may be the way to go. From what I hear Orange amps are pricey.

I have 2 amps that I wound not consider selling. One is my Mesa Triaxis/2:90 rack and the other is my 1984 2203 that I had converted to EL34s. The Mesa rack has a huge variety of tones available but it just doesn't do the EL34/Marshall thing.
Everyone should own one good all tube Marshall.

Why do you say one should switch from 6550's to EL34's? 6550's give a fatter tone do they not? And are they less defined than the EL34?
