Seth and AP2

Could someone compare the two? I think I'm going with one of these for the neck position in my RG to replace the '59. I like what I've heard about the AP2, but don't want Slash's tone, which may rule this one out. I like what I've heard about the Seth, but want it to sound good with hi-gain, and know it's a vintage pickup.

Hey Riff don't worry you won't sound like Slash! :laugh2: You'll need the LP style guitar.

The A2P is the warmer of the two pups with the more even string response. The Seth is more quacky like the first buckers Gibson made. Not saying one is necessarily better than the other but different.

Haha. Oh, c'mon. The RG and a Les Paul are roughly the same, with the exception of wood, shape, construction, finish, weight, and about $1,500.

Right on. A2P's are fatter, rounder. But seth's have a to die for clarity still with a2 properties, that is round tone with spongy bass and smoother highs. I'd always go for the seths.

There is only one thing I do not like about seths. That is that their resistance values generally are quite low. I know they are the real deal copying 57 PAFs and all. But still I would love to get hold of an 7.80K seth neck. That was the reason why I sold mine and settled with antiquities, which I think are superb especially after changing the magnets.

BTW that is why using a seth bridge in the neck is quite a good idea.

How bassy would that sound with the Seth(b) in the neck spot?

Not too much. Remember it has an a2 magnet. So the bass would be spongy. Not like a5's which have somewhat in-your-face kinda bass.

I love slightly hotter neck pickups, like 7.80-8.00K with a2 magnets. But they can be a little blurry, and even muddy. So clarity becomes the very critical issue. Indeed I love my 8.00K PGb that I use in the neck position.

8.30-50K a5 bridge and 7.80-8.00K a2 necks I think give an excellent middle position on lesters.

I once said that the A2P was like a humbucker made more humbucker-like! :laugh2: At least I'm not the only one who hears that!
