theres lots of ways to skin a fish
Well, if your project-, band-leader, manager and/or artist/s you work for and pay your salary think otherwise, then it isn't.I guess there is more than one way to do things.

And after thirty years and in excess of five thousand gigs, spread over four continents, including a Circus, I'd like to think that my previous statement is/was pretty-well founded.
Anyway, YMMV.
You have no idea...You worked in a circus, well that explains it.
You can laugh all you want, but to play in a Circus band must be one of the hardest, if not THE hardest, most demanding job there is for a musician.
Everything is written and scripted, as they need to follow the different artists' floor routines, so yo need to look at the music with one eye, look at the director with the other and even developed a "third eye", looking out at the artists themselves not getting away with their scripted routines, plus being able to "accent", all moves from the artists and the animals as well. From the musician's point of view, it's a nightmare on wheels, but if you can survive that, well, you KNOW it's all downhill from there, musically speaking, as you'll be able to play anything, anywhere, at any time.
You get to travel for free, no more need to cook and all the different animals' manure scent permanently impregnated in your nostrils. Swell!
Any volunteers? Raise your hands!![]()
