Seth vs. Antiquities

Tonally, what are the differences between them. I've never had the Seths so I'm interested. I've got a set of Ants that I really like in my Paul. Not thinking of swapping out the Ants, but I am considering the Seths for another axe. Are they similar? How so? Dissimilar? Again, how so?

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

The Ants are PAFs as they are today, the Seths are PAFs as theywere circa 55-60. The Ants are going to have an openness that the Seths won't have. The Seths will sound more quacky and focused in comparison.

Hard to REALLY go wrong with either.

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

You'll love the Seths.. I've had them in two Les Paul style guitars and they sounded great... I just today had installed a Seth in the neck and an Ant
in the Bridge in a Edwards LP... Going for the best of both worlds and so far I'm loving it... The reading on the Seth is 7.43 and the Ant is 8.59. The contrast so far seems perfect..
When I see a decent Seth on ebay at a good price, I usually buy it whether I need it or not.
Do a you tube search on Seths and you'll see a dude playing them in a 335.
It sounds great. I was looking for some to put in my 335 copy, but a deal on some 57 classics came up that I couldn't pass up... That guitar sounds great, but it may end up with Seths some day.
They are similiar but different. I read somewhere where somebody said the Ant was just a Seth dipped in Billy Gibbons piss.:)

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

well there is a difference - recalling ... the ANT neck is for my experience a bit more open " more chime " -then the seth neck. The ANT bridge was for me too weak. Maybe bec of degaussing. The tone itself was very chimey- but lacking "balls". I wd prefer ANT neck and Seth bridge (A5 mod?) in doubt.

Yeah, I really like the Ants I have in the Les Paul. Looks like I'm gonna have to get a set of Seths, too. Thanks!

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

The Ants are very much "alive", very airy sound, a lot "going on".

The Seths do the same thing, but less so.

Most of the time a bridge Ant is wound hotter than a Seth bridge. A Seth pair is usually pretty close to each other, 0.4 Kohm apart or so, whereas an Ant pair is often 1.0 Kohm apart.

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

Like uOpt said, and a full charged A2 mag into the Ants Bridge is like dipping it into hot Gibbons p....

Re: Seth vs. Antiquities

I had an A4 (btw original Fralins supply) in a lot of pups (DiMarzio, Gibsons, Duncans). I only like it in necks if they are overly bass boomy with A5's
