Seths combo for Thin Lizzy sound??

I'm still confused about which combo I should get to have a vintage
rock sound with my LP Std. (e.g. Thin Lizzy). I'm looking for nice clarity
but also warm tones..I was thinking about the Phat Cats but I need something
a bit fatter but still clear enough.
Is a Seths combo ok? or a PG neck and a seth bridge or even a alnico pro II
combo? thanks

Seths will be fine... for more grind and sizzle, PGs!

A2P might be too sweet.

The 59's do have more highs than the Seth's, but they also have more lows. This quality makes them sound somewhat undefined to my ear as opposed to a good alnico 2 mag humbucker at the neck like a Seth, PG, or APH in a LP style guitar. The 59b does rock though.

Re: Seths combo for Thin Lizzy sound??

The closest I have got to the "Jail Break" era Thin Lizzy tone was with my Les Paul with a 59 in the bridge, playing through my Marshall 2204, with greenback Celestion speakers in a Marshall 1960 cabinet.

I slightly prefer the Seth Lover over the 59 for my current projects, but I think the 59b is more suited for that particular Thin Lizzy tone.

I think I'll get the seths..would u recommend a seth brigde and 59 neck
or seth combo? thanks

Re: Seths combo for Thin Lizzy sound??

I think all of the pickups mentioned are so similar that through a cranked Marshall any of them would do the trick. Through a solid state Peavey or Crate, none of them would do the trick. The amp is 1/2 or more of the tone you're looking for. Also, I think you will stay confused about which pickup you need until you try one (or a few) for yourself. All we can do is offer suggestions. You just have to take the plunge and see for yourself. I like the 59, Seth Lover, Pearly Gates and Antiquity Humbuckers. Any of those would do the trick through the right amp. Lew

Lew is right. "Beginners" tend to focus too much on pickups, and not enough on amps, speakers, efx and.... cables!

As Lew said : "Any of those would do the trick through the right amp"... and I'll add : into the right hands too!

Seths are great for Thin Lizzy in a LP. My current band plays Boys Are Back, Cowboy Song, Waiting For An Alibi and Chinatown. I use my LP with Seths into a Marshall Jubilee and it's perfect for those sounds.

In the twin-guitar version of Lizzy pretty much every guitarist played PAF type pups - Robertson, Gorham, Moore, White. Robbo and Scott also used the mini hums in their LP Deluxes. I think Sykes used Gibson Dirty Fingers pups.

But you'll nail it with any good PAF type humbuckers - Seths, '59s, PGs, Ants.

Thin Lizzy, Seths - obviously a man with immaculate taste.

Re: Seths combo for Thin Lizzy sound??

I can get a decent TL with a pair of PAF copies, so I agree that that's the way to go. Simon, no "Dancin' in the Moonlight?" :)
