Seths in zebra

Maybe John or Lew can answer this to me.

I'm thinking of getting a set of Seths for my new guitar (still waiting for it) and since the zebra is part of it's look, I wondered if it's possible to have Seths in zebra.

Would Seths without covers sound much different?

Acuatally it could also be cool in double cream, does this still exist?

To get Seths w/o cover will have to be ordered as a "Floor Custom", the cost is NO more and you can get them as Zebra, black, white, or double cream...to get the double cream they will come with covers that will not be soldered, just slip them off! As far as the tone, here is the deal...you will gain a little extra top end, some people say that removing the covers gives you more balls. I hope this helps.

Nuntius, my friend, you overestimate my buying power You'll know soon enough, I'll post a pic of it... but it's in the same price range as the Ibanez SZ... yet closer to a LP in style, you're right about that... a REAL LP remains one of my dreams. Probably achievable in a couple of years :evil:

Sly...keep this in mind...The Seths have a hollow/complex midrange quality (the best part IMO) and when you remove the covers by increasing the treble you will be able to hear a tad less of that nice midrange...it will still be there just not as strong...just a side note for you.

I've played my Seths (in a LP) with the covers on and off, and the difference in sound (if any) is subtle. In fact I didn't hear any diference on the neck pickup. The bridge pickup I thought sounded a little brighter and louder, but maybe I just had it adjusted a little closer to the strings.

My Seths are double cream. They came that way from Black Rose without me specifying a colour - I believe John orders covered pickups that way from SD.

I'm sure you could easily get zebra or double cream Seths from Black Rose or Lew.

Thanks guys, very interesting points. I would hate to lose any mid range for sure.

Yet Simon, if you tried it and saw little difference... my problem is that my hardware is gold, so I'd have to pick either zebra/creme or gold cover. Not 2 options I can have at ounce.

Can I go into metal territory with the Seths with a booster pedal (like a boss sd1 or ds1)? Not that I play metal a lot but I like an occasional Iron Maiden, Triumph, later Kiss, Scorpions (some 80s stuff actually) - nothing like Pantera or Slayer. I know the 59 reacts well to high gain, it just laked a little mids for my taste. And I hated the neck 59.

Sly, I have an un-covered set of Seths in a LP and they're my favourite of all pups I've ever tried in a LP.

Imo they're a very open sounding pickup, with not too much of any particular frequency (if that makes sense?).

Also, I have a set of gold covers that I took off my Seths which I don't use, so they're there if you want them.

Cool Craig, I'll keep that in mind for sure.

I really think I'll dig the extra bucks and go with the Seths this time. From what I've heard and from the tiny little things that I tought my 59b was lacking, I think the Seth is what I'm looking for.

Sly, yes, you can go in that territory for sure. Dave Murray's strat on 1st maiden album was loaded with 2 PAFs. I switched to SuperDistortion during Killer sessions.

The SethLover bridge has some serious balls...

Thanks Thames... that's good to know. I know that Lenny Kravitz used to have Seths in his Gibson V sig and I really dug his tone at the time (are u gonna go my way). His V sig is now equipped with Gibson 57 classics.

I'm really looking forward to get the Seths... I'll give a try to the stock pups first, but I really don't hope much about em.
