Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

I have a 2010 gibson es-335 i bought recently that i felt the 57 neck pickup was too muddy/woody for my taste....(compared to my schecter c-1 (my other guitar). i took it my main tech who recommended a seymour duncan antiquity for the neck.... after the switch it was a little better but not really enough.... im guessing the main difference i like the clean/bright/glassy/sparkly sound of my schecter c-1 neck sound is because of the A5 magnet /uncovered quality....

what do you think
i am considering getting another tech to swap the 59 from my c-1 into my gibson es-335 and the antiquity into the c-1 to even out the guitars

Re: Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

You certainly could do that, but I'd change the Antiquity neck pickup's magnet to A4 or A5 first. Much easier & cheaper than a pup swap in a hollowbody. Then if you're not happy you can swap between guitars.

BTW a 335 is always likely to be thicker/darker in the neck position than your Schecter, regardless of the pups.

Re: Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

swapping a magnet is pretty easy but you can kill a pup so be careful. an a5 will give more of the sparkle you want but will also introduce more bottom end.

just taking the cover off the antiquity will give you a touch of high end back.

Re: Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

but can anybody list the main attributes of those two pickups? from playing my 335 and my schecter it seems the schecter to me has glassier/poppier/more modern sounding/crispier/ cleans (i usually use my neck pickup for cleans only)

and my es-335 has more "woodier, rounder, vintage , sort of dusty/sandy quality to the clean sound"

but i like that more modern sprightly sound
now how much of this can be attributed to the pickups vs the guitar?

Re: Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

You are trying to equate two quite different guitars and get them to sound the same…

It cannot happen!

Use each guitar with a different mind set - only then will you be happy.

Re: Seymour Duncan 59 Neck vs Antiquity Neck

arent pickups playing a huge importance in tone though? So it would not hurt to swap the pickups
im not trying to get them exactly the same... just narrow the gap a bit
