seymour duncan amps??

How were they? Was at a music store yest and they had an old used one for sale. didnt have time to plug up and explore it, but looked it over and a couple things surprised me. First... Did they come with fans in the cab? This one had one and wasnt sure if it was factory.. Second, the tube config was interesting. Was kinda dark to make out clearly and again, was pressed for time to thoroughly check it out, but looked like one 6l6 , a couple of El34s and then some 12ax7s. Plus, there looked to be 2 transformers and one was huge!!

There was a guy there that (customer, not sales) Who seemed pretty knowledgable (sp?) or maybe just a blow hard, but he was telling me these had swappable modules to change the sounds. And there was mention on the diagram on the top of the amp of modules. True? If so, are the modules avail anywhere/

IIRC, they were asking $699 for the combo. Seemed alittle steep as it def not in pristine shape.. But I wanted to find out more. Again, the tube combo really intrigued me.

Can anyone shed some light?? Thanks

Re: seymour duncan amps??

they are getting kinda rare for working units but for the time they were way ahead of the curve. there were different swapable modules to get different tones in the preamp

Re: seymour duncan amps??

The ones I've heard were wonderful. However, I remember a thread around here were there may have been some quality issues.

Re: seymour duncan amps??

i think a lot of the issues have to do with the swapping of modules. they werent all that robust and if not treated gently, they got noisy. there were probably other issues too but thats the one my buddy had with his

Re: seymour duncan amps??

They were ridiculously fragile

Swapping tube modules was great but they spend a lot of time in the shop.

Re: seymour duncan amps??

They were designed with a guy whose specialty was hi-fi amps iirc they sounded fantastic but were problematic to say the least. If you were going to use it only in your studio and never move it maybe I'd recommend it otherwise nothing but fru$tration.

Only time I recorded with mine, I think it was an LP Special with an SP90-3 and a Strat with a JB2

Re: seymour duncan amps??

So, it is one of the Convertible amps? They also made an 84-40 combo, but $699 is way high for those.

Dude - I love the way you sound. If someone played that for me I would have said "Sounds like the Heartless Devils..."
