Oh right, I get you now. I've never really thought about it much before, but its a fair point.
I guess I mean that if the screw pole pieces are moved upward to fill the space in the holes, the slug poles still stay in place and be further from the strings. without the cover, the screw pole pieces are down lower and the slug poles are closer to the strings as a result of the overall pup height adjustment.
Oh right, I get you now. I've never really thought about it much before, but its a fair point.
