why is this in the pickup lounge you ask? read on...

installing pickups and working on friends guitars wouldnt have happened, if it wasnt for a purchase of a hotrails pup from brians house of music over a year and a half ago. i ended up replacing all of the pups in my (only electric at the time) strat. then i helped friends out with their guits.

moving on.....

i had been working in the x-ray department of a titanium foundry for about two years. i noticed that a job posting had been put up for the welding department. all the welding experience i had was in metal shop (high school) over 10 years ago. i didnt think i could still weld but i bid into the job anyway. i soon realized that tig welding was very close to the coordination of soldering. not exactly, but close. so i got the job because the dudes in the front office liked my work.

this is something i made while messing around with "bead-building." the chamber had a leak in it. titanium isnt sopposed to be colored like that. its colored due to oxygen contamination. i think it looks "cool."

That's pretty wicked looking. I inadvertently caused that same blue and purple discoloration on a piece of titanium in the lab I worked in at college. It actually looks pretty when it happens, though it's not exactly great for the metal. Mine was just a piece off a thin sheet of titanium. Yours kinda looks like a big cactus in the desert.

That's good news! I've thought about working on gaining all the knowledge I can about wiring guitars and pickguards, and also printing out every possible wiring diagram I can find.

It may be a good part time job to install people's pickups, do custom guards, or tricky switching. I just need to get really proficient at it, and take it to an expert level.
