Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Seymour Duncan seem to cover a lot with their individual pedals. How about a multi-FX unit, which incorporates every pedal they've made? The only things missing are reverb and amp/cab modelling. Such a device may give rivals like Boss, TC Electronic and Line 6 a run for their money.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

I have a hard time seeing this happen at present. On the one hand, separate pedals are very fashionable still (personally I would be happy never to stomp on one again); on the other, getting into amp modelling must be an enormous endeavour on its own, and getting into the market without it would very risky. Take a look at TC Electronic, who for a long time were considered the numero uno when it came to professional-level multi-effects for guitar: the Nova System must be some years old by now, the G-System (which I use) is at least a decade, and their flagship, the G-Force, has been around for as long as I have been playing. And I don't blame them: there is probably more money to be made for less risk in the pedal market.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Start with pairs.

Delay + Reverb

Chorus + Delay

Comp + OD

Comp + EQ

Verb + Tremolo

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Personally, the last thing I want to look at right now is another multi-FX unit.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Well, the Boss units are digital pedals, and many (not all) of the current pedal lineup are analog, so I don't know how that would work. I suppose you could collect them all and use that new Boss effects looper to chain them together in different ways and take them out of the path when they aren't being used.

You named exactly what I feel is mising in the Duncan line-up; a Switcher! Like Boss’s effects looper. A device into which you can conect all your individual pedals into and program some patches. I bought Mooers Switcher this past December and it didn’t even last one year (neither did their reverb), so a reliable US made one would be great for every one who has more than 5 Pedals.

Another item we all need (this year I blew a Chinese made one) is a powerstation, one which will give us the voltage it mentions.

Personaly I think multieffect units are not my thing, I preffer 5 good fx than 20 lame ones.

EDIT; by powerstation I meant power supply.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Well, not all multi-effects are lame. You get what you pay for, here.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

I would rather have Chorus + OD

Hey - whatever flavor floats your dual-tone boat!

My point is that A Multi-fx is a major departure and bloated field.

However - if you have single fx that people buy, and they sometimes buy pairs, get on the data stick and see what you could;d put in a dual house enclosure, maintaining the analog mojo.

See Visual Sound H2O etc...

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

See - here is an idea. Obviously driven by my needs....but:

A Chorus Delay Reverb Unit -

Three on / of switches
All true bypass

NOT a multi-fx, but super handy all in one Swiss Ambience Pedal. Bonus points for making the Chorus switchable for Chorus or Tremolo.

Pretty sure Voodoo Lab are made in the US; they offer both power supplies and switchers. Unfortunately they're pretty expensive.

True, and I have a Voodoo Iso 5, great unit. But my gripe about it is, not enough 18v outlets. And what I'd really like to see is a power brick that has a switch for 9v & 18v on every outlet. Will it be more bulky and cost more? Yeah, but I don't care. I currently have 4 ODs that I can run at 18v and I like the way they sound at 18v more than they do at 9v.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

Love the discussion here!

As we get more into digital pedals in the future it would certainly be possible for us to do a multi-fx unit. Of course we'd want to make sure that it lived up to our standards - and yours - so we'd love to hear what you would like to see in a multi-fx unit.

Re: Seymour Duncan Multi-FX?

I'd definitely consider one, if you are going for a truly high-quality product. My #1 wish would be a rack possibility, either in the form of different units or a dual-format product like the G-System. We might be few these days, but some of us still like short cable runs and beer-free electronics. ;)
