Seymour Duncan P90-1 -> Noise cancelling and series/parallel in between pos

Hi,

I'm thinking about adding the Ilitch noise reduction backplate system to my 2x SD P90-1 strat. I really like these pickups and it would be cool to reduce some of it's noise.
Alternative would be the stacked P90's from SD or other brands like Fralin, Kinman and Lollar. My first choice would be the Ilitch for P90s. Anyone tried that?

Anyone ever added a series/parallel switch or push/pull for the in between position with the 2 P90's?

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum.

My experience has always been that two P90s, connected in series and electrically in phase, sound unusable. (Unwieldy and muddy.) Series, out-of-phase might be interesting. (I have never tried it.)

I am yet to hear any stacked coil, noise-cancelling replacement for P90 that sounds as good as the real thing. In my opinion, the noise from single coil P90s is a price worth paying to get a sound that no other pickup can match.

Thanks!

So no point in trying to wire a series/parallel switch then, I've never liked out of phase much so will leave that out :)
So the P90 stacks from SD are still nowhere near the P90-1? Noticed that the output of the stack is higher then the P90-1 as is the resonance peak that's 3K vs 4Khz on the P90-1.

The Ilitch seems to be very good in leaving (almost all) your original tone intact. Might still give that a go. I think you can also wire that on a switch for on/off and balance how much noise cancellation you want. Could be cool. :)
