Re: Seymour Duncan Pickups Suck Period
ok, well .. now we have something more substantial to talk about
you are not correct that guys here will slam your gear for no reason ... the way you came on so badly might get you some slams, but i have never seen anyone get their gear slammed ... and i actually have never seen anyone get their non-SD pickups slammed either ... i have a mostly low dollar guitars, some of them with non-SDs and no one has ever ragged me - all i ever got help in finding the pickups that would get me where i was looking to get ... and my amp rig is nowhere near as high $$ / high-quality as yours and i've never gotten ragged on that either ...
you also dont tell us what kind of music you play (unless i missed it - i reread your posts twice to try to find it) .. that really makes all the difference in the world ... we've seen guys come on here and tell us that they cant hear the difference in pickups because all they want is uber smash gain .. after we explain that the compression associated with that much gain usually flattens many pickups into sounding very much alike (and often not very good), they tend to figure that alot of folks know what theyre talking about .. and yeah, the VR is not going to work for high gain - they do tend to need to be close to the strings to work best, closer than a single coil it might have replaced ... if your jazz

is muddy, could it be that it is too close to the strings ... you might not have considered the effect of pot values (250K vs 500k) ... all i am saying is that if show some respect and give us the background, we can help ... if you dont, we cant ...
also, without knowing what kind of wood your fingerboards/necks/bodies are made of we cant give better advice ... we also dont know if you are using a trem or not (and which kind, if so) ... these things effect it too ...
also, what about the 21 day return policy for the ones you bought? you couldve gotten them turned in for something more to your liking .. i'm telling you, if you are within the 21 day period then just call cathy duncan (CEO) herself if (by some very odd reason) regular customer service doesnt help you (and i'm confident that they will) .. she said with her own mouth not 15 feet in front of me that they want every customer to dig their tone and will do what it takes to help them find the product that will work for them ... if you call them and behave better than you have on here, you'll feel a ton better about the whole process
and after all that, yunno what? SDs might not be for you ... there are several much beloved tone bros on this board who dont have ANY SDs ... and that is all good too .. they are just respectful and pleasant and fun and useful contributing members like everyone else .. there is no 'oath' of allegiance to SD pups here .. the only oath is to behaving like a responsible and respectful human being
make your choice
good luck
