They are not really hotter...When Duncan came up with the "Classic Stack Plus" these were the first prototype version. Nuno was one of the beta testers along with several guys on the forum (including myself) and even thought the first versions were updated to sound even more like a nice vintage Strat Nuno personally liked the first version better so thats what he uses but they are only available on the Washburn Nuno model(s).
Truth is they sound pretty close to the off the shelf "Classic Stack Pluses" but they are a little thicker sounding, not as much strat chime or quack.

I've got one in the neck of my Strat and use it through a Marshall-copy into a Celestion 12" loaded cab. I have it wired as a humbucker and have not tried it in single-coil mode. It has some chime, snap, and quack and is mainly a balanced single coil. It has a slight mid-scoop that keeps it from getting muddy, even in this mahogany-bodied Strat that is pretty fat-sounding generally. That said, it does have a little bit of smoothness that comes from being a humbucker. The output seems medium to me (around 8-9K) as a humbucker. I like the clean and mildly distorted tone. Under heavy gain, it doesn't have enough "meat" to it's tone for me, however, I haven't tried it with a OD pedal and I normally favor loud humbuckers anyway. They are nice, inexpensive, and a good if you're looking for a 90% of the single-coil tone without any hum or noise.
