Seymour Duncan SH-5 custom vs. Dimarzio Super distortion

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-5 custom vs. Dimarzio Super distortion

I have them both in Les Paul style guitars:

SuperD
+ Tight bass, big mids, way more highs than you would think, very flexible, cleans up well, double hex really lets you tailor the tone
- Not as hot as you would think, a touch fizzy to my ears
* The "-" are REALLY minor issues

Custom
+ HOT, big chuncking bass, screaming highs (but not screatching), classic PAF style, really flexible
- mids a bit cut/scooped, slighty tight ceramic tonality
* again, REALLY slight issues

These are two extremely great hot metal pickups, that can be used for anything really. The Custom is the modern sounding one of the two. The SuperDisitortion, to me, is the all around MVP.

I play KISS, classic rock/metal on the SuperD, and 80's Metal (poison/def lep/etc) and heavy riffage on the Custom.

Both fantastic pups. Can't lose either way IMO.

What are YOU looking for / to do?

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-5 custom vs. Dimarzio Super distortion

I have a Ibanez ART 500 (les paul style... actually is more like an ESP Eclipse) and I'm very interested in these 2 pickups.
What is better for drop D tuning?

Would it work a Custom in the bridge and p-rails in the neck?

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-5 custom vs. Dimarzio Super distortion

Hmmm. I think they would both do drop D (D A D G B E?).

I have certainly done a little Ratt with my Cadillac/Custom. It's a beast tuned down.

I haven't done it with the superD, but i think i might dig it more. SuperD will be tighter/crisper, IMO. Custom will have deep CHUNK.

Duncan Distortion would be my first choice for that.
