Seymour Duncan SH-5 to replace pickups in Jazzmaster?

Anyone know if the SH-5 will fit or bolt up to a jazzmaster? Or how the Seymour Duncan "hot jazzmaster pickups" compare to the SH-5?

I have a Tom Delong starcaster with the "SH-5 Custom" and I love it. Never cared for the pickups that came in my Squiren JM. Also not sure if the SH-5 in the Tom Delong Starcaster is different from the regular SH-5. I know it probably sounds like a weird pickup to put in a JM but I think it might be interesting to see what it does, especially on the rhythm circuit. Any input appreciated. Very little experience here.

They're just too dark sounding I guess. At first I thought it was the amp until I got the starcaster and everything sounds great with that rig. kind of dark and muddy I guess.

If it is an SH-5 in your Starcaster, that is the same thing that is available aftermarket for other guitars. If your Jazzmaster has regular humbuckers, then it should fit with no problem. What model Jazzmaster is it?

It's a squier classic 60s vibe. The dimensions are close. Width is the same. Height is 1/8" off. Screws are in different spots but i could take the covers off to see what I'm dealing with. Just wondering if anyone's done it.

If I ordered 2 SH-5s is there a difference between the neck amd the bridge or do i just order 2 and put them in?

Well, there is no SH-5 neck pickup. A neck pickup that would match pretty well would be the Jazz.

I once put for an experiment a humbucker without legs (it had a broken baseplate) under a JM cover, glued wit hot glue, it works as espected, I think a regular HB could need some routing for the legs but, who knows?

I don't know how an SH-5 would do in the neck position, honestly. People often complain about the '59 being bassy in the neck. SH-5 is way bassier.

i had a sh5 in the neck of a hamer monaco elite, it was ok for fat rock solos, but not great all around. my rig is setup for lower output pups so maybe you could dial things in better, but for me, it wasnt great. better than i expected, but still had to be replaced

The Jazz bridge has more output than the Jazz neck, so it might be a better match for the Custom if you put it in the neck. The 59 has a lot more bass than the Jazz- the 59's EQ is very close to the Custom, actually.

I had the custom shop make a jazzmaster brobucker. It's a jazzmaster shaped pickup. Sounds fantastic in the bridge.
