Re: Seymour Duncan TB4

Mustaine uses it, if that's any help. If you ask me, they're to muddy. Others will swear by them. Guess it all depends what you're looking for. It's a pretty classic pickup. I use a Custom instead of the JB. I have had many guitars with the TB4 in it. I didn't like it. A lot of rockers use it however.

Re: Seymour Duncan TB4

Welcome to the forum. The TB-4 is the trembucker spaced version of the JB to compensate for the wider string spread typical on tremolo bridges. The JB is one of the most versitle pups in my opinion. You can cover just about anything with it. Great clean, overdriven and with high gain. As h8red442 said, it's a pup that has been around for a while. However, I don't think that I've ever heard it described as too muddy. If anything, I've heard many people describe it as too bright.

Re: Seymour Duncan TB4

In the right guitar, with the right switching options (coil splitting)the JB will be able to cover all of the styles you listed. :burnout:

Re: Seymour Duncan TB4

All I know is I had a TB4/SH4 in any number of guitars. 3 USA Jacksons and 2 American BC Riches and the lower strings always sounded muddy. Maybe fuzzy is the word I'm looking for. Whatever it is it was hardly articulate and used to sound awful. That was until I got my American Mockingbird with a Custom in it and wow the difference. Much more punchy and articlate you could actually hear each time I picked the low E when I was just thrashing out. If I turned the bass down on my amp I could get a better sound from my TB4s but I would also lose a lot of quality when I would palm mute. Maybe I'm a jackass. All I know is that the SH5 saved me from hating Duncans forever.
