A guy who works in a local music shop here, swears by the tone of his SD combo.

I own a convertible as well, it has very nice tone but I can't seem to get good high gain sound out of it. How does it sound compares to your Mark II? Did you get close to the Mark tone with some modules combinations?

I've got two of the old 600w Bass heads. They're badass.

That sounds like an 84-40, IIRC. Four EL84s into 2 tens. I borrowed one from a music store for a few days' demo back when they first came out (late 80's?). I liked it, but not enough to replace the Marshall 4010 I had at the time. Not sure about type of construction or build quality - I didn't know nearly as much about amps' insides back then.

Re: SEYMOUR DUNCAN TUBE Guitar amp ever herd of it?

My convertible can tend to compress a bit much. BUT I used to use it with an ALTEC 417, lol and that was part of the problem. VERY SANTANA tone that way. It has a wicked open tone and clean. I need to get it repaired. It sounds best with a mix of classic, normal and presence mods.

My Mark 2 sounds amazing because it has an open sound that takes pedals, and its built in distortion can be bluesy and saturated bordering on an Eric Johnson fuzz - seriously. I like the FX loop as well. So the difference is that as woody as my SD can be, the MESA has a full, rich, and complex BUT OPEN tone that is amazing clean. REMEMBER I DO NOT USE the EV12L, I use Mesa 90w and G12H30s.

Why don't SD make amps anymore? If they made a good amp for a limited time I'm pretty sure they'd sell a fair few quickly.
