Seymour Duncan's new Duality pickups thread

I just saw the email for these and it sounds like a great idea, but wasn't this same idea applied to the "coil pack" pickups of a few years ago? What's the difference? Did the coil pack pickups die a slow death as I never hear about them anymore?

Also, when you click in the email where it says "learn more" it just goes to a blank page. Who's handling the web page stuff like this as that's kind of shoddy.

Also saw a weird typo in the article from 2014 about the Shop Floor Custom options where the example of getting a Seth Lover pickup potted but the error replaces the word potted with sotted.

I could use some extra cash being a proof reader, hook me up, haha.

I know Max was answering questions about them in this thread. I saw them at NAMM, but didn't try them myself. He may see this thread, or you can try posting in the other one.

I was asking a similar question HERE. we'll probably find out before too long.

Re: Seymour Duncan's new Duality pickups thread

I saw these too. The coil packs, and Gus G pickups let the pre-amp do most of the voicing. I wonder if these are similar to the new EMG retro Active pickups which do most of the voicing in a traditional coil design and use a pre-amp to pump the signal up.

I loved the Gus G blackouts, but the logo on the pickups in my guitars was a no go unfortunately. I do have a ESP Eclipse that originally had the EMG 81/66 set which I hated. I tried the James Hetfield JH and pulled those immediately (yuk) they were a treblely mess. Then I tried the 57/66 EMG's and they were much better but had that same sterile EMG tone. So finally I tried the Retro-Actives and those are in a different league of their own. Real organic tone in a active package. I was about to strip the Eclipse and go passive until these came out.

Looks like these new Duality may be very similar if not the same. This IMO is the way actives should be, the voicing should be in the coils, not the pre-amp. So very interested to find out more! BTW all my other guitars have Duncan's in them.
