Seymourized MiniBuckers?

i have 2 guitars with minibuckers in place of the original P90s and love both...
Dean Z with Dimarzio vintage minis and Hamer Studio Custom GT with Gibby minis...
both neck pups work great for me but both bridge pups are too bright and a bit thin and weak...
i generally use both guitars on neck pup or both pups with the bridge dialed down in the blend...

ok...now...

i have a Hamer Artist Korina with P90s that i think will sound great with good minis....thinking the Seymourized in bridge will overcome the "deficiencies" of the other bridge minis, especially in this guitar....and the SD Vintage mini in the neck...
i'm wanting clean blues tones...deep, full, and round....and figure this will get me there unless the Seymourized is too hot for me or not a good match with the Vintage in the neck...
i'm guessing a Seymourized in the neck would end up a bit too bassy or hot...

or should i consider the Antiquity Minis?....loved the SD Antiquity P90 i had in another axe...

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

I have only used the neck SM-3 in a Tele, and have no experience with the bridge SM-3. The neck SM-3 is no hotter than the vintage SM-1 neck, but it is made differently and EQ'd with more lows and mids than vintage. So, I don't think the SM-3 bridge would overpower a vintage neck, and it should sound fuller and warmer than the vintage bridge. Hope that helps.

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

thanks, yes, that does help....pretty much what i thought....gets tough to figure just going by numbers on the website....was hoping for input from someone who'd actually used one....

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

the sm-3 is the only one i have not tried. but im thinking it would be a great match with the sm-1 in the neck. the sm-1 is an awsome pickup. "clean blues tones...deep, full, and round...." sums it up. its just an amazing pickup. i have the sm-2 in the bridge, and i can tell you, although i love it, ive gone through phases where it just sounds way too weak. i think the sm-3 would fix all the things i see wrong in the sm-2. I say get it.

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

I've not yet tried the SM-3 but upon reccomendations from several people (and the sound clips) I've just ordered one for the bridge of my LP Deluxe. I'm having the Custom Shop make one with adjustable poles and no "S" logo so it looks like a stock Deluxe mini. I love the bite and creamyness of the stock minis, but the bridge is just a little to thin and underpowered for my liking - hopefully the added mids and output of the SM-3 will do the trick! I'll post my results when I finally get the thing..

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

sounds like we're all on the same wavelength...

i was watching the live webcast of Clapton's Crossroads festival a couple years ago and David Hidalgo was playing a Firebird with minis and i loved his tone...unfortunately, it was left off the DVD...
anyway, i checked out a couple Firebirds and didn't like them at all so started thinking....ended up ordering a special limited run Dean Z but had the dealer switch the P90s for Dimarzio minis....figuring the large piece of mahogany with vintage style minis would be pretty close....i was right...love it....have since bought the Hamer with Gibby minis and love it too...
my Hamer Artist P90 just doesn't give me what i'm wanting, therefore the search for the right minis for it...and i think i'm on the right track...

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

i thought i saw a clip of hidalgo playing the white firebird on that dvd, who knows.

the sm3 bridge is my favorite mini humbucker. a little fatter and hotter than vintage with out losing all the vintage vibe

Re: Seymourized MiniBuckers?

yeah, i should have been more detailed....the specific blues song he did at the festival was not on the DVD however he's there on another song or 2...
tried to find out the name of the song i liked so much but have had no luck doing so...
