Seymourizer II (SH-7 / SH-6n) question

Hi there, got a question about the SH-6n, i'm searching for a new bridge pickup, and i thought it could be the ticket.
Found the threads about the Duncan Distortion Neck in Bridge, but what i really want to know, it's how the mids in this pickup are voiced. Are they more like on the JB, or do they go more in the "scooped" territory ala Duncan Custom (i can't stand the Custom sound)?
Personally i generally like the JB and Duncan Distortion, but what's really grown on me over time is the Screamin Demon.
But sometimes i just wish the demon would have a bit more "ceramic-y" sound or just a bit more big/loose mids, like the JB.
So any idea, where it fits for mid EQ?

Thanks very much
Jerri

I am interested too. What kind of guitar are you interested in putting it in? I am looking into putting it in a fat sounding Les Paul. I was thinking a SH-7 Bridge and Jazz neck. I will pull the trigger on doing this in the next couple of months, so interested in how it compares to a Demon and SH-6b. I like those both. Same as you, I dislike the Custom tone.

You could try a ceramic in a Screamin' Demon if you wanted to try that out to see how it sounded like that. Would obviously bring up the output of it a bit. As for how the SH-6N is voiced I'm not personally sure as I never used it, but it sounds a bit scooped compared to the JB/Distortion bridge in this demo, but I'd be that's the player's EQ at work:

@audiocheck: I'm on the opposite spectrum, i guess. The guitar i was planning to put it in, is a bolt on 25.5inch scale guitar with a recessed Floyd rose. The guitar is maple neck with maple body, basically an 80s shred stick. But don't be confused, the guitar sounds sort of tubescreamer like, if that makes sense. Bite-y attack, yes, much "natural gain", but tonewise it's a pretty dark guitar that sounds pretty tight in bass, and very mids focused.

@Aasinsilta: Thanks for the youtube link, i quite like the sound in this demonstration, i found that before, too. The problem i've got with the demo is, it's quad tracked and super high gain, but i guess the real problem is, demos of the SEY in bridge position on youtube are equal to non existance.

I have tried the SH7 in the bridge position in a strat and I LOVE it. It's got that JB-esque tone with a bit of the Demon's flavor in the mix. It has the fluid leads of the jb but the articulate rhythm of the demon, without the looseness of the JB or the overly HIFI vibe of the demon. Yet... it's a beast of its own. It isn't a heavy hitter, but not medium output either. It's got a gritty voice, like the distortion (due to the double thick ceramic I guess) and the pickup excells in strats. Les pauls? not so much, imho. Too warm. Too thick. you need brightness. I suppose the SH7 would sound great in an SG too. Or Jackson Soloist.

I do like the SH7/Demon hybrid with an a5, though. great for splitting, too.

well from that YouTube demo, I would be inclined to give it a go. I have the SH-6b in a LP and that works fine. I am just looking for something with a bit more dynamics than the SH-6b, but in the same ball park tone wise.

Re: Seymourizer II (SH-7 / SH-6n) question

I think, i'll give it a try, too. Orpheo's description sounds killer. A JB/Demon/DD "mashup" in the way orpheo describes it, seems like an awesome pickup!

audiocheck, same here for myself, it's the only guitar i play at the moment and i don't want to make it too much of a one trick pony either. With a JB the guitar sounds like a sledgehammer, very cool, but after 20 minutes i start to miss the dynamics. SO i didn't even try a DD in this guitar :)

Re: Seymourizer II (SH-7 / SH-6n) question

Tried the SH-7 today in my guitar, damn that thing is kinda insane.
It sounds like a JB with a more even/hifi-ish tone quality to it, it's not as muscular sounding as a usual JB, and if you do some shredding or stuff with lots of artificial harmonics or if you just hit the strings hard enough, the Duncan Distortion vibe comes kinda through somehow.
Played it for like 15 minutes, but i have not had this enjoyment for a pickup since ages.
It's for sure brighter in the top end than a JB, but not as bright/shreeky as the Demon, seems right in the middle!
At a first look it seems to be a killer tone, if you like 80s guitar sound! :jester:

I do not tell you , if i didn't read your description, i wouldn't have ran into the music store and bought it, i guess.
Just wanted to give another impression on how the pickup sounds, since there aren't that many opinions/sound descriptions of it. For sure i totally agree with you, that thing is a total blast.
At the moment it looks like it's going to be my favorite pickup (for the 80s thing) :14:

Damn,

Now I really want it for my Black Les Paul Standard! Have to find the money for it soon. I already have a Jazz neck to put with it. I hope that will make a good match.
