SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

OMG!!!! KILLER!!!! My board may become all Seymour Duncan if I am not careful. I already have a Lava Box and a PUP Booster.

I'd be glad to beta test!! I have a pretty strict ear for tremolo!

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

I was just thinking that I needed a trem pedal and I log on to this??? I think it's a sign!!!

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

I was thinking about a few pedals today too and tremolo came into my mind - curse you duncan! I also have my eye on the lava box as well :eyecrazy::naughty::omg:

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

I hope they set the price low, both Cusack and Empress have tap tempo trems with multiple waveforms... They are pretty pricey though.

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

I have not pulled the trigger on a Diaz Tremodillo - yet.

But you have gotten my attention. And, for the record - the Kabala of all trems is the Peavy Valverb, IMO. We won't even talk about the verb....

How will this beast compare to either of those?

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

I haven't been this excited about a pedal in quite some time. Any idea what the price point will be Evan?

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

glad he finally outted this. i cant wait to try one

Santa Barbara, California - If you like the smooth, easy-to-dial-in sound of vintage amp tremolo, you’ll love the Shape Shifter™ Tap Tremolo, Seymour Duncan’s latest stompbox. Its sonically pure, 100% analog signal path delivers the familiar lush, hypnotic, pulsing vibes characteristic of ‘50s tube amps. But if you also crave unrestrained versatility and you want to delve into ultra-modern experimental sounds like flutters, shimmers, warbles and even radical “helicopter chops,” the Shape Shifter is also your tremolo.

In Rate mode the tremolo speed varies continuously from one to 20 cycles per second. An LED pulses in time with the tremolo effect for easy Rate setting. In Ratio mode, the speed is established by tapping the Tap Rate switch, allowing for easy synchronization of the tremolo rate with the song tempo. Also, in Ratio mode, the tapped tempo can be expressed in your choice of four tap-to-note ratios: 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1 (1/4 notes, 1/8 notes, triplets, or 1/16 notes).

The Wave control allows the tremolo effect to go from the smooth modulation of a sine wave through the sharper characteristics of a triangle wave to the abrupt on/off effect of square wave drive.

But perhaps the most unique feature is the Shape control. Most classic tremolos increase the volume over a certain period if time, say a quarter of a second, and then decrease the volume over a similar period of time. This gives a smooth, even feeling to the tremolo effect. When set to the middle of its range, the Shape Shifter’s Shape control does exactly that. But when the Shape control is rotated away from its center position, the relationship between the time spent increasing the volume and the time spent reducing the volume changes. For example, you can dial in one-tenth of a second of volume increase followed by four-tenths of a second of volume decrease, or vice-versa. This adds a very different feel to the tremolo effect. With quick swell and a slow drop, the effect is percussive like a piano. Conversely, with a slow swell and sudden drop, the result is reminiscent of a tape played backwards.

Like all Duncan stompboxes, the Shape Shifter features true bypass and is built like a tank. Whether you’re a traditionalist or an experimentalist, this is your stompbox. The Shape Shifter: it’s like two tremolos in one.

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

You need to add a line that says, "Or, if you want to replicate the cello lines from Still of the Night by Whitesnake, it can do that too"

That should pretty much satisfy everyone then. Way more trem than I can imagine what to do with!

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. The "Shape" control is essential to a tremolo I think, and the tap tempo having multiple ratios is necessary to, for TT to work on a tremolo.

I will be buying one.

Re: SFX-07 Shape Shifter Tap Tremolo

Demo-ing it at NAMM was a blast. Everyone who saw it got really excited. It's so fun to play and it's totally intuitive. It's really easy to dial in your sound. The secret is our proprietary controller. If I told you all the things that make it unique I'd be typing for the whole evening. I'd also be giving away all the secrets. Suffice it to say, any tremolo sound you've heard in the past, or could invent in the future is already living inside this box, waiting to be found. And the sound is pure analog goodness.
