Well, I just bought a SG jr off ebay and it comes witha bridge p90. I was worried because I was going to have to get it to fit a humbucker but all these descriptions of the p90 sounds awesome. When you guys say the P90 is noisy do you mean it is staticy or it has alot of feedback? Someone mentioned the stacked P90, does that fit in a regular p90 routed guitar? also how much noise is reduced with this pup? Is it worth the extra money? I will most likely get a SD P90 because I do not know what kind of p90 mine has so, Another question is how is the bottom end on the P90 does it have a nice thick palm muting because someone said it sounds really nice for punkish type playing and that would be perfect for what I am looking for in a new pup. I also saw the Hot Soap Bar one does anyone have experience with that?

Leave that pickup in!! You scored a hell of a guitar, I am so jealous. The P-90 is a perfect pickup for all rock. Look back at punk rock from the '70s and early '80s, A whole lotts' P-90s. The Clash, The Dead Boys, The Buzz****s just to name three. There were alot of P-90s in that second British wave. If you want a single humbucker SG, you want to SG-X, or SG-1. They are the same guitar, just released at different times. I've got an SG-X, ebony with a black/cream/black pickguard. I love it, but I envy your Jr. Let me know if you want to trade. :)

The noise is the darned single coil hum- 60 and 120hz. I believe that your SG Jr uses a dog-ear P-90; it looks like the P-90 stack comes as a soap bar. I've removed soap bars and mounted them on the baseplates from dog-ear P-90's but it can be tricky.

With single coil pickups you can usually find an orientation that minimizes the noise. It might be okay to face the back wall in a studio but that doesn't seem to work well on stage. ;)

If it's a Gibson, then it's going to be a great pickup. Gibson might not be great with pickups as a general rule, but they DO know how to make a P90! P90s are perfect for punk. And rock. And oldschool metal. And blues. And pretty much everything.

Man you have a great guitar... Everytime I think in a P-90 loaded SG comes to my mind the "Live at Leeds" by the Who. One of the best overdrive tone I ever heard...

If the guitar comes with dog ear P-90 you could replace the pickup cover for a metal one (if it doesn't come with it allready). The metal cover will help to reduce the noise to acceptable working levels. Think in a tele neck, a Phat Cat or a Burns Tri-sonic...

Thoose are the pickups that the Brithish guitar brand Burns load in their guitars. You can check here.

But are famous because Brian May used them in his home made Red Special. There are many reproductions but now Burns make the signature. (Guild also sell it for a while)

I've got 2 P90 loaded guitars and they are completely different beasts.

64 Gibson ES-330 a hollowbody slimline jazz guitar that rocks hard. I pour on the gain and this pup really can give up the goods. My problem is I have to go out into the hall to avoid the hollowbody feedback with my amp cranked.

Godin LG P90 A Les Paul jr type guitar with 24 frets and a set of duncan P90 customs. It screams and cries with the best of them.

As far as noise goes there isn't that much in fact I think they might be a bit quieter than fender singles.

If I were getting this guitar I'd slap an antiquity in the bridge or go the complete opposite direction and convert a custom over to dogear.

I think a P90 equipped guitar would be great for covering the bands in your sig, but you won't sound like them. If you aren't getting a fat enough sound, roll back the tone knob and try heavier strings. And if after everything you decide you hate P90s... don't ruin the guitar. Sell it, and get something else.
