SG pickup angle question

Re: SG pickup angle question

It wouldn't be all that hard to get a replacement guard and modify it to accept pickup rings so you have the proper string to pickup angle. That way you still have the original guard to.

Re: SG pickup angle question

Seems like we don't have all that many SG threads so it's nice to get input. Thanks everyone.

Re: SG pickup angle question

not sure how long the "batwing" models have been around - probably late 60's/early 70's?

Batwings were introduced in 1966-67, replacing the original 1961 angelwing. I have both pickguards (being an SG fanatic), and agree with the group here that I prefer the angelwing myself (it is much easier to swap PU's and magnets in).

The only SG's that I don't like are the 1970's models with front-routed control cavity and the big, tacky plastic plate in front. During that decade, most SG's had the neck sunk deeper in the body with an oversized clumsy heel. Talk about ugly. Truly a lowpoint in solid bodies. Thank God Gibson went back to the 1960's designs! Those are SG's!

And while we're on it, don't maestros look great on SG's? They need to put them on more models. A wine red SG with an angelwing & maestro...wow!
