How does the SH-1b 59 sound as a neck pick-up?
Would an SH-1b pair well in the neck with an SH-5 Custom or a JB in the bridge position?

I like the SH-1n hollow and woody lead sound but it's a bit mud&thud for chords in my guitar.

Tones I Chase: Classic Rock, 80sAlternative, 90sShoegaze, James Honeyman-Scott, John McGeoch, Reeves Gabrels, Steve Stevens, Andy Summers.

Thanks Everybody :bigthumb:

Put an A4 in it.

a 59b in neck position works like a charm but, depending on body wood, might be a little boomy in the same way, in that case an A4 or an A3 cures the issue. In my opinion you don't have to change the pickup, the magnet is enough.

If anything, a '59B in the neck slot will add a little more low-end and remove a little high-end. Doesn't seem like the direction you want to go. '59N's can be boomy/bassy in some guitars, as was recommended, an A4 magnet will take care of that. Much cheaper than a new PU.

Pretty sure BloodRose has at least one in play, dunno if he did any mag swaps or not,tho...

Hopefully he'll chime in.

Well, it would add a bit of low end, unless you remove the screws, it changes how the pickup sounds by efectibily making the screw coil output far weaker, you don't end with a single coily tone but rather something near to what you can get with a spin a split

Yeah, and it's especially good for 24 fretter when one needs meatier sound in the neck. But if you already had muddiness with '59n in your guitar, '59b in the neck will give you more. It usually happens in shorter scale (and semi/hollowbodyguitar). Like other said, magswapper goes with A4.

oh well, you can always ask Dimebag how that worked for him.

edit: ... no wait you can. woopsie me. but you get the idea.

HaHA!

but
I did manage to find a pretty well put together demo for the Dimebag set, and though it was (as typical for most modern metal) a little bit over-processed it did give me some idea of what a 59b in the neck sounds like.
It seemed like the low thump wasn't as pronounced, that may have been the floyd, but as everybody suggested the whole spectrum of sound was a bit darker.
