Since I've been considering getting a So Cal myself, also to replace the stock Distortion set with a CC/FSn set, I'm curious about that too.

I think you'll be getting a flutey, single coil-like tone, but with great resoonse when using high gain.

The FSn is one of my favorite neck pickups.

LLL nailed it.

Filister poles tame that clicky attack and make it smoother. Thats how i run mine.

I'm hoping there's a faint whiff of rich mahogany in there as well...

It's just a jazz neck with hex screws IMO. I use it in strat bridge position together with a Texas Special single coil in the neck.

Yep, that's how I roll. I buy them based on their names, then flip a coin, then do an "eenie meanie minie moe".

The pickup that "meanie" lands on is the one that gets picked to stay.

But then again, I'm a professional.

Really cool pickup, will retain definition with ridiculous amounts of distortion. With low to mid gain, you can get some PAF-ish (fat tele) type tones.

Can you turn a Jazz into a FSn by replacing the poles?

It's clicky and raw like a single coil size humbucker with screws only a bit warmer cuz it's full size.

You can get half-way there by replacing the filister poles with allen poles. The slug coil, not so much as that one isn't threaded.
