SH-11 Custom Custom Magnet Swap

I have the sh-11 in my explorer right now. I'm looking to swap the magnet to reduce the mids a little bit and to increase the bass a tiny bit, and leave the treble as is. Cannot lose output! Gaining output is ok. Which mag do I want for this?

have never used a A4 yet, i simply suggested based on what i ve read. u wanted bit more bass, bit less mids than A2. treble might be slightly pronounced too. output-wise, it might be on the same level as A2, but magnet strength is slightly weaker than A2.

i have used A3s, and will not recommend them here; though they have slightly attenuated mids, they are brighter (not the harsh kind), and they have less bass when compared to the A2.

You want A5 or you could even try a Unoriented Ceramic mag

how about a UOA5? I'm sensitive to treble, and I think the A5 will add a lot of treble vs the A2 I have now

The mid level & response of an UOA5 is very similar to A2's.

A5 will add treble, but it will be a relative increase due to the contemporaneous increase in bass. RCA5 will have slightly less treble.

My recommendation? Buy multiple mags and experiment with the CC (and with your other pickups); I'm confident you'd be content with an A5 or RCA5 -- and if you buy multiple mags, you'll have options for something else down the road.

I have guitars with Customs in them. One with UOA5 and one with an A8. The UOA5 one had an A2 in it that was too middy. I like the UOA5 much more. A little more bass and a little more treble with a little less mids.

The A8 is a beast. At first I wasn't sure I if I liked it. But I gave it some time and I like it a lot now. It's in a strat-type with single-coils and with a serial/parallel switch the parallel blends very well with the singles. In serial, it slams the front end of an amp and makes it howl.

A fully-charged UOA5 is you best bet.

A5 = a Custom 5, and that has super-scooped sound to it, IMO

A Ceramic = boom the bass and scream in treble, but have the mids, just down

I'm not feeling the mag swap here. Sounds like you REALLY want an A2P…

I defer to Magneto and KoJo - but even KoJo said "Best Bet" not "MUST have this - it will give you exactly THAT!"

UOA5 is most likely to give you what you are describing. I would avoid A4.

I definitely do not want scooped mids, just slightly less. If treble increased more (sparkly) that would be nice. And if bass increased a little bit that would be nice too. I already installed the hex screws on the wound strings.

Then I withdraw my previous suggestion and instead throw my hat in with the UOA5 as well.
